By 1944 the attrition of skilled pilots and the lack of pilot training had left the Japanese with almost no skilled pilots. (plus the fact that they thought parachutes were a waste)
Additionally by 1944 the A6M was hopelessly outclassed by Hellcats and Corsairs and many of the new fighters the Japanese were coming out with (and there were some good ones) either had too many bugs (And Mitsubishi refused to honor the warranty...
), were too few in numbers, or were unwanted by Japanese pilots.By 1945, when the F7F Tigercat came out it was basically a Turkey Shoot. Japanese planes were notoriously easy to knock down if you could hit them. A skilled pilot would have helped them if they had any left.
