Isn't the "D" a 2 seater? I don't want nobody else in the cab with me...

P-51D was a one seater. It did have a large bubble canopy which gave the impression that you could seat someone else back there but that space was loaded with radio equipment. For people with vintage planes today, since modern radios are so much more compact the radio can be relocated and a jump seat can be placed in the back.

The P-51B was a little faster because of it's Razorback configuration but it was short visibility and 2 - .50 cal machineguns. Though it was the favored plane of Gentile and Godfrey, The Highest scoring Pilot - Wingman team in the European theatre of operations. They were said to be almost telepathic when they were flying together.

Compared to the Corsair they were both lacking in the ruggedness department because of the inline engines they used. One shot to the radiator and that's all she wrote. The Corsair could take several hits directly to the engine and still run, although at reduced power. Also, some versions of the Corsair carried 4 - 20mm cannon. Lot's more firepower. Carrier capable, heavier warload, more firepower. Also the Semi Bubble canopy gave the best of both worlds. Increased visibility along with the speed advantages of a razorback configuration. The most reasonable compromise. The Corsair was so good it stayed in production for 11 years before production was cancelled, long after the P-51 was taken out of service.

No matter how good the head... I don't want any distractions while I have to fly a plane in a combat zone. Sorry... not a good mix.

Well I'd have to say that the P-51 is my kinda plane.. Fast and deadly... No need to bother me with the long haul kinda stuff.. Lemme get down to business and go home...

You take your planes kinda serious huh??!!

I'll take a F-16 too...

It was a childhood hobby. Always wanted to be a Pilot but my vision was not 20/20 uncorrected. If I had been born 10 years later soft contacts and relaxed vision rules would have saved me.

P-51 was a good plane, don't get me wrong. It did exactly what it was designed to do and well. I just think the F4U was a better all round performer. And both planes are gorgeous in their own way. The Mustang is sleek and sexy while the corsair is kinda brutish and dangerous.

BTW I'd go for a F/A-18 instead of the F-16... Navy bias that I have.

Of course opinions are like A$$holes, everybody has one and they all stink.

I'd do a bombing run over Jamaica, but I like Pineapple Soda. I wish they'd hurry up with that electron bomb.
