3G Iphone will be out this year, wait for that.

The current EDGE only gives 135kb downstream if lucky.

Expect to get 4 hour of total use out of the 3g version. I am happy with the speed of the Edge 2.5 on the iphone now. I tested it against my 3g Tilt and the Iphone still loaded a page faster than the Tilt. The safari browser loads faster than Internet explorer even with a slower connection.

yes with 2 year plan extension.
Application speed is a whole different aspect of these phones. Data throughtput is important for the most part as it will limit the fastest programs.

Smaller pages will load faster as throughput is not pushed to get pages open. Now start pushing higher bandwidth needy programs and then EDGE 2.5 will suffer compared to the 3G.

Just keep in mind that the 3g chip only helps with Data transfer using the network. Not the operational function and speed of the phone. So Applications will run at the same speed as long as they are not using the internet. I mean dont get me wrong the phone will fly with the 3g speeds but I am not sure if it will be worth it to sacrifice the battery life for daily use on the phone. imho

Thats what im saying, 3G is the network protocol/framework that the phone functions on and the software will use to transfer data. Enhanced speeds will then allow for better performance overall.
