What's the deal with that evo that's been in their parking lot for like 5 years?

Anyone want to PM me the "inside track"? I know there is always the glossy sunny side newcomers see and then there is the real underbelly where tales of shop screw ups are shared. LOL.

I'm going to be leaving a A1 shop and I'm used to having one within 20-30 minutes away. I don;t mind traveling 45 to get quality service. is there really no quality shops in the Raleigh area.

I'll be in town the 2nd week in January to meet the people at the site and the other co-worker who will be reporting to me.

During my car-project travels, I've run across a couple of forums where they have been active, whether sponsor or not, I'm not sure.

Long-story-short is that these other forums were giving flack to Phantasm about lack of project completion.

I believe the Evo-in-question is owned by someone at the shop and is an example of the above. I also recall something about maybe not knowing Evos, but I'm speculating a bit because I really don't remember.

A quick search of "Phantasm Nams Evo" returns some info on the car.

^ Yep, Jay's on the money.

When I had my civic, I used to take it to Phantasm for alignments, because I kept getting turned away from other shops that didn't want to deal with the hassle of a lowered vehicle. I never had any complaints with their maintenance work.

But there were MANY horror stories floating around on-line regarding lack of project completion, costs getting jacked way up after original cost was negotiated, projects taking too long, not meeting promised delivery dates, mechanical problems after delivery, etc.

As far as the black Evo on the lot, I believe Nam bought that as a shell (no engine) several years ago with the hopes of building it one day. But you know how it goes...the carpenter's house is always the one in the worst state of repair, as they're too busy fixing everyone else's.

In short, it's best to take the trip south to Force Fed or Spec Ops, because we all know these guys, and they know Evos.

Agreed!
I personally called Phantasm to have a clutch job done when i first got here. The whole process seemed like a pain to them. course i jumped on here a Force-Fed took on the job. been going there ever since.

I'd also be down for a welcome to the area meet. it may be my last one before i take off to Korea.

Yea its about time to get a meet going... and a good time to deliver thundrflsh's car . Also

I have known the phantasm guys for a long long long time. The deal with the black evo is just that it has no engine and has sat for years and years outside. There is a AMS 2.3 i believe it is that is ready to go in it and has been that way forever they just dont have the time or motivation to get it running i guess. There also used to be a guy named jason in raleigh with a black 42r supra. It was something like a world record car for pump gas on a 42r and had some nasty nasty work done. He popped the head gasket and sold it to hung for REALLY cheap. Those guys carry ALOT of parts and when we dont have anything i tell everyone to go up there bc of them having so many things in stock you can do that in raleigh due to the amount of walk in customers that come in which is why i really wanna move up there. As far as work or service they have had some guys working in there that had some serious skills but seems like they dont have very good quality control or customer service. They do know their way around a honda and tuning on those platforms but as far as everything else not so much. They are good guys just havent done the best at getting themselves a good name over the years. they have been open since something like 99, got big cutting vinyl i think but have never put anything really nasty out there.

Thanks for the kind words guys. If anybody knows of any shops or industrial properties up for sale or lease please feel free to give me a call or shoot me a PM... there are a couple spots we are looking at close the 540/40 and the airport/brier creek

both of those locations would be ideal. Both are easy to get to within 15 min from anywhere around Raleigh and most of the big money is up north or around Cary.

I think that is the other Jason you told me about, i dont know him. this guy used to work for Saturn in the auto park as a tech. Popped the head and bent some valves or something and sold it for a damn steal.
