Almost stolen

My Evo was almost stolen last night in Broward County.

My car was pretty dirty and the sheriff lifted lots of really fresh prints off of the car from whoever it was so with any luck the person has a record an will get caught.

Super pissed off about it and now I have to find a new place to keep my car because it's clearly not safe here anymore.

They broke and pulled out the driver side rear vent window and unlocked the rear an driver side door but that was it thankfully there was no other damage and I think they got scared off by someone because there is a decent amount of traffic where I live.

What's even more mind blowing is that I live across the street from a police station, literally, and this still happened.

Anyways I'll keep up on this post and let everyone know if they find them, they said that it will take about 7-10 days to run the prints etc.

Keep an eye on your babies boys and girls they are disappearing like hot cakes down here.

thanks sux, atleast nothing major happened, this sounds completely dejavu cause while i lived in daytona someone broke the same window got in and stole my radio and messed up the dash a bit.
(found the trunk open but they must have gotten a shock to find it gutted already cause i had done an autox event the day before)

So apparently after talking with Mike from AWD these guys definitely got spooked when trying to get my car and will most certainly be back to try and get it so finding a new place for my baby to sleep indoors is going to be my next challenge when I get her back....

Glad you got the police to step up and run the prints.. Got my car broken into years ago--guy showed up to get a report--took no prints, nothing. Found out over 50 cars got broken into where I lived at the time...and guess what ...to get s drivers license you need to give a thumb print...so their on file but no one would look. Figured it cost my fellow neighbors 100k in insurance... **ckhead kids.

I'd rather be a few miles away from a police station than right next door when it comes to crime prevention. Cops don't want to do paperwork/chase some kid on foot/anything after a long shift, I bet. Also, since there's so many police in the area, they're probably complacent. I've seen tons of crimes committed right next to police stations. 2 of you guys have had your cars messed with, so I think I'm on to something...

Sucks about your car though. Do you have an alarm? I'd recommend a nice 2 way alarm by Directed Electronics (makers of Hornet, Viper, etc) with a pager, and add a battery backup, tilt sensor, and radar sensor. It'll be fairly expensive but it goes a long way to protect your Evo.

Yea, I was surprised that they came out and did it without giving me a hard time about it, usually any extra work they have to do they are jerks and lazy about it. I just hope that the prints are from whoever tried to steal it and that they have a record so that they get caught.

I dont think they require thumb prints in FL for a license, I hope they do though!!! That sucks that they didnt look into it, its kind of a no brainer if they have prints to get a license and could run your whole car.

If they give me a real hard time all I have to do is contact my uncle who is a sheriff and he will make things happen but it seems like it will be done in the next week or so...

I would be if I were you, I would make sure the car is secure and have some theft deterents and/or some kill function and park somewhere they cant flatbed it out...

I prefer not to mention where in Broward I live for the sole fact that people probably come on here to try to locate them to steal, hope you understand.

Thanks, I agree, it blows my mind how much crazy stuff happens right next to the police station by me....

Your definitely onto something, Im just glad it isnt gone but I have learned my lesson now. I didnt have an alarm, the thing that saved it had to be someone getting spooked, but even if they didnt the battery was dead in the car and it wouldnt have started and I doubt they would hang around spending time trying to diagnose it.

Im getting something added to the car for security in addition to storing it somewhere locked up. thanks for the recommendations on the alarms

Scary, so glad you still have her. Keep us updated on if they catch them. My Evo was broken into few years ago and the cops did nothing... so glad to hear they are working for you. Best of Luck!

Thanks, I will 100% let EVERYONE know who they were if they find out who it is, then all the others that have been stolen in the area will have a lead on where their cars may have gone as well
