I thought the Sprintbooster was just an overpriced op-amp multiplying the pedal signal by ~30% or so.

People who speak loosely about the product makes it sound that way, but the truth is the product works. Most people quival over the price but when it comes down to it. For what it does, its worth every penny.

I have said it before and I will say it again. If i had to do everything over again. One of the first mods i would put on my car would probably be the sprintbooster. On a CVT its pretty substantial.

Well, from what I understand it does if you want to work with me we can make a small circuit which does virtually the same thing for ~$10 worth of stuff from an electronics parts store.

for people with knowledge on how this stuff works, it's easy to DIY.
but safety is an important factor you need to consider.
i could probably build a circuit myself too, but i don't want the gas pedal failing while i'm driving.

Of course safety is a factor to consider, I have a degree in computer engineering and just from analyzing what the Sprintbooster actually does based on this guy's research: http://www.crosslake.net/~dbipes/spr...intBooster.pdf

My conclusion was just that the product is exceedingly expensive for what it actually is, and must make the manufacturer a huge profit margin.

And perhaps a new business prospect

Kabome this responses isnt targeted at you, but to everyone, just so we dont have another rehashing of past threads.

The article you referenced really isnt anything new. Its been around for a while. What I dont like about it is, its not really scientific nor did the writer open up a unit to further inspect.

There are a few threads on here where I debate with people about the sprintbooster and its merits. Generally the conversation always goes back to one place. The debate over price. The argument on if it works or not has been settled. It does.

But people always rehash the price. They hear articles like the one above which give the impression that this is nothing more then a piece of wire lol. and anyone can make it. If that was the case, we would be seeing a ton of similar devices out there.

But i will take the position of the other side here, lets assume its so simple that anyone can do it with a trip to an electronic store. And lets say we have a electrical engineer working on it. And lets say he works in the good old US of A.
People dont look at the time it would take to properly create, test and retest a unit such as this. If I were to take the engineers time and factor that into the cost, i would say it would still come in at around 300 dollars.

Final point, consumers dont see the whole picture when there is a price to something. Sprintbooster is no different than an intake, or an exhaust mod. Companies go thru the same paces, it starts with an idea, it goes thru testing, if the idea good, it gets patented, if its really good it survives further R&D testing to ensure its market viable. Another thing that makes sprintbooster a little hard for some people to swallow is that its a flat price rate. From the short time I have been at JRP (now 2 weeks) I have seen about 50 cars come into here all ordering the sprintbooster and getting it install on the spot. Most of the cars BMW's, Audi's Dodge Challengers, and everything else under the sun. To a guy who has spent 60,000$ on a car, 300 bucks is nothing if the product works and does what it says it does. But guys who are in a different demographic they look at the price and think they are being robbed. my only point to this is, look at the alternatives and tell me what does the same thing for less.

When it comes to value, I cant really fight, cause everyone has to figure out what is worth more to them. But for me, the first mod i would put on a lancer CVT is not a Exhaust, or an intake, first thing should be a sprintbooster. Its a completely different car.

Its that good.

Would it make much of a difference on an M/T? (I'm already pretty hard on the pedal when I want to be as it is )

Do you want me to do some voltage testing and/or open it up?

sure, just buy my old one from me for 250 and you can go nuts breaking it open lol hehe. But seriously, I think you would like it. Its a different feel / function for the manual. Manual has a sensitve low end while the CVT version has a normal low end and a sensitive middle pedal feel.

If you want to buy the Manual version for your car, go for it, try it for a week or two. if your not happy, bring it back.

When I speak from my personal experience, the CVT version its to die for. Cause it makes the car drive properly, vs. having to continually mash the pedal lower and lower to get more power.

I think you might like the new selectable module. The fact that you can also turn sprintbooster off / back to stock is a good feature.
