Is a pattern starting here ??

I'm not pretending. If you look at the post of the Cyl failure I did post that I thought it was NOT the tuners fault. So now you can go and troll some ware else.
Now if you can share something with out starting trouble please do. If you just feel like talking sh-it do it some ware else.
I don’t want to get involved in the whole thing but I hate to see a nice guy like EVOtomig and Shiv get into an argument like this. Mark and Tom you both realize that when you modify a car and you push it to the limit an engine failure might occur right? Regardless who tuned it and who installed the parts. When my EVO was tuned 7 months ago I knew very little about tuning (Still know very little about tuning) but I was surprised that Shiv put my car on the dyno and he did not even ask me to sign a waver as many shops will do regardless of what you are doing to the car. I did not know much about Shiv back then but after reading and learning I do realize that he is a well experienced tuner and blaming him for the tune on the Sti is quite pointless. Any engine modification can (whether it's software or hardware) can cause an engine failure. I have worked on STi's and installed many parts on them and tried to tune them a bit but all I can say that they are not what people expect. turboXS spent countless hours tuning my friend’s STi and still not making the power that we hoped for. If my engine fail on my EVO I can’t blame anyone beside my self and I have to put my hand in my pocket and pull money off my A$$ because I have asked for power which = trouble. Bottom line is bite your loses, but don’t burn bridges.

I wasn't trying to slam anybodies tuning skills but to learn more about the various ways each tuner controls detonation with using the factory knock sensor or not using it.

You don't have to denfend your self, people read into things diffrently. Some people just want to start trouble.

Thank you Eric, I just don’t know I feel for Mark but if you want to play and post 11 sec run then you have to pay. Life is hard and you have to pay for what you do.
I can’t wait to meet too. It seems that writing to someone over the forums makes you imagine how they look and how they act. You start making an image in your mind about them. For example... I imagine you as a fat guy like your avatar

Hey, do I take perverse pleasure in watching the tables turned, regardless of how baseless the claims are? Absolutely. In fact, I find it quite fitting. "Karma's a b1tch." "You reap what you sow" yada yada
Really, I don't think the STi failure cited above is anymore Siv's fault than the Evo failure is Al's fault. But you know what, I'm not the person who dragged this down into the crap. One of Shiv's customers did.
Let's just keep it real, okay?

By doing so, in my opinion, you are aligning yourself with the assmunches. Now if you want to characterize your own contributions to the thread, then fine. In fact, I agree with what you say your own intent has been. If you want to avoid being maligned and you want to have a level headed discussion regarding motor failures, then I suggest that you not try to pick up the torch in the middle of a mudslinging festival.

Bottom line stop the bull crap lets talk about why it happend and how to make sure it does not happen again.

If this thread was started as a honest technical thread, it took a bad turn within the first six posts or so. It also should have been outside of a vendor forum. Someplace like Engines, Turbo & Drivetrain, for example. Hell, even that is imperfect since Buschur sponsors it and undoubtedly exercises some degree of editorial privilege.Unfortunately the best honest technical exchanges I've had occur in PMs. This won't change until the moderators take charge and clean the trash talk from the technical forums. Sad to say but until then, there is no neutral territory and wading through the crap will be the price to pay to find the occassional nugget.

Ok so now I'm fat and a hopeful romantic
JKLet's get back on topic.
I have been reading the english boards and they all feel the rod bolts are the first to go. We are seeing pistons. I think that's because the better gas they have there and more margin of stafty from better octain.
On STI's the motor are not as strong as EVO but how cares about STIs I drive a EVO and this is EVOm

I don’t know why Subaru keeps milking that boxer engine??. The whole idea is not right in my opinion as the engine is working the opposite way tarring itself apart. The whole design of the STi is too complicated for no reason. I have never seen an STi piston and rod but I would love to see one.

Not trying to mudsling, going to be tuning my xede soon with a new turbo kit and don't what to explode it. Anyone know if Shiv can setup my ECU with injector scaling for 800 cc injectors ??

Boxer motors have allot of advantages. For one lower center of gravity witch helps balance the car. The biggest problem with Subaru IMHO and I have had the WRX so I paid and played, is that the EJ20 and EJ25 are not really turbo motors. They were not really designed from scratch for boost like the 4g63 was. They are a NA motor with lower comp pistons. Also they are much more prone to failure when modified because it's like taking any NA car and turbo charging it. Also the fact that the Turbo is at least 16in away from the nearest manifold does not help. The new USDM sti's are a semi-closed deck motor witch is much better then the WRXs open deck but still not as strong as the EVOs Iron block closed deck motor.
JDM STI motors even at 2.0 can handle much more power because they have much better internals and also can rev into the 8200 rpm range.
Now tuning any motor you have to have a good understand of mechanical limitations. IE on WRX motors even run race gas all the time and no detonation at 330whp (Dynojets) the rods break. Just by the force of the piston movement and velocity. At 20pis of boost even with no detonation the cyl walls oval and then ring landings break.
Most people don't know this but on WRXs the knock sensor is turned off after 5000 rpm because subaru feels that knock sensor can't tell the difference between knock from Valve train noise.
Oh I like Subarus but I would keep them very close to stock if I had one.
It's like pissing in the wind.
Now having the EVOs for Two years we have learned that the stock motor can be pushed well up to 400whp and have reliability as long as it does not knock. Guys, thats very impressive.
So this is what I have learned hanging out with the EVO/DMS gurus from Turbotrixs
Head Studs are not need unless you want to push over 25PSI
When Shifting get off the gas completely (LOL, I have yet to grind a gear and they are running 9s on the stock tranny)
Stay under 7800 rpm
Come guys add to this…
