Bov Topic

ok. quick question for everyone. i've been wanting to change my stock BOV to a HKS ssqs bov. but ive heard that changing the stock bov can trigger some engine codes sometimes and also messes with your maps on the xede because they are programmed for the air flow it has with stock. i dont like the plastic bov that it comes with especially when im running aroun 23-24 psi. some people told me to upgrade to the mr because its aluminum, but why pay for a stock bov from another car. any suggestions?

First of all, there is no reason to change your BOV unless you determine that it is leaky or otherwise defective. Assuming that it is, or, if you want an upgraded piece, the MR BOV is a better-than-stock replacement that works well for anything you're going to do and costs a fairly reasonable $120.

If you want something else because it's chrome and/or because it sounds like a cow passing wind, then you can spend money on a more pricey BOV. Be advised however that if it vents to atmosphere, or if it has an substantial amount of spring tension, it will have an adverse affect on some aspects drivability, and this has nothing to do with the Xede.

If you want BOV that performance and sounds great, you must go with the APS BOV. Awesome driveability under cruising and high boost action. The quality is just awesome.

With HKS BOV you might experience idle problems and driveability issues.

I like the Go Fast Bits Stealth FX BOV available here:

http://www.importboost.com/inc/pdetail?v=1&pid=2062

It has an adjustable spring by turning a knob and you can adjust the amount of air that vents to atmosphere from none to all. It is pricey, but it is a top quality unit. I had some driveablity issues with the MR valve (car would would almost stall when coming to a stop), so I went with the Stealth FX and it works great. My 2¢

We recomend sticking with a forge, or MR BPV if you are going to be upgrading. I have driven quite a few cars with vent to Atmosphere, and 9 out of 10 have some type of strange part throttle stumbles, on both stock ecu cars and xede'd cars.

For performance, stick with a bpv.

What about cars with bigger turbo's?

Same story on big turbos, except it has to be a forge, an MR wont hold enough.

I purchased the WORX tuning BOV...it has a tremendous build and is fully adjustable...they only make BOVs for Evos and WRXs...it is adjustable between 0% 25% 50% 75% and 100% VTA...i DD with it at 0% but have driven around with it at 25% for a week or so and noticed no driveability differences...

its a dual stage and can be adjusted in many ways...so i figured why not get it in for the future if i need to adjust (just in case)...plus i have heard awesome reviews from WRX and STi guys...

anyways...just thought ide throw mine out there
