Catless question

Currently I am running Helix downpipe, Vishnu sig catback and stock cat all with the stage 0+ map.

When my cat delete pipe arrives later this week should I expect my peak EGTs to go up, down, or stay the same?

Thanks

They should go down or stay around the same. The cat holds back pressure, which creates a little more cylinder pressure, which creates a little more heat. Domino effect.

Thanks, that's pretty much what I thought, but don't know enough to be sure...

Thanks Dustin.

Cylinder pressure? I thought that on a turbo charged car the exhaust does not affect cylinder pressure, since the turbo sits between the exhaust and the engine...

less back pressure on the turbo, a little less cyl. pressure. nothing to notice though. everything flows better. are you getting the o2 eliminator.

You'll also notice that the car will spool quicker and pull like a banshee on the top end

I second the fact that it will pull hard on the top end, or any end for that matter. Definately get the CEL eliminator. It's easy to install and it will cause you less problems when it's time for service.

Now precisely what would I have to do to get my car to pull like an ape raped banshee?

I knew about the top end thing, was just hoping that the cat-delete would end my paranoid fear of my EGTs being too high.

Funny thing is that I ran for about 3 months at stage sub-zero with no EGT gauge and no problems. Since I got my EGT gauge I can't stop worrying about them

Gauges will do that too you... Take comfort in knowing that removing the cat will give you an added safety zone regarding heat and timing. If you look at the Evo exhaust it seems clear, at least to me, that the cat was meant to be taken out. I've never had a car where taking it out was so easy

Look up pressure ratio. The turbo has a magnifying effect on exhaust pressure. I don't know what our 16G pressure ratio is but most turbos sized for cars it is about 2:1.

So for 5 psi back pressure in the exhaust would be 10 psi back pressure before the turbine. That is why the bigger the better with turbo exhausts.

It is the pressure differential across the head itself that helps determines the power of an engine.

Thanks for clarifying... never fails to amaze me to learn how little I know..
