Exhaust Question

I have been running the Perrin Downpipe, Perrin Test Pipe and Borla Exhaust for about a year now. I really like it, but i have been reading a few post that say the exhaust that neck down next the test pipe don't make as good power as the tru 3" exhaust. My question, are we talking about a really big difference or a few horsepower? Should I go maybe to shop have them cut that neck down out and weld a new 3" flange? Any idea how much this would cost? Thanks in advance.

Depends how small the neck is. Do you know? if it's 1/4" or less, I wouldn't worry about it and if you're not planning on tunning it afterward, don't bother.

FWIW, if it's a straight (not curved) section, a muffler shop can probably do the job for about $50, but then you may have fitment issues; there may be a reason the neck is smaller.

The reason the neck is smaller because Borla is a street legal exhaust its made to fit the stock cat flange.

The amount of power difference really depends on your level of modification. If you look at the Buschur Racing dyno thread, he posted his results as far as testing smaller vs larger exhausts. Some very good info there.

I have read that before, thats why I wanted to see what Vishnu would say. So far I am running Stage 1+, I have also the hotside on the way too. Plus I am getting the custom tune on the TT Dyno Day in April. So I was wondering would it be worth me to do this mod?

If I was you, I'd probably sell your exhaust and get a Buschur exhaust with the Magnaflow muffler ... it's the lightest (non-Ti) and least restrictive of the aftermarket exhausts.

just my $.02

But be warned the Bushur makes the most power and is very light but it is loud as hel* even with the Magnaflow muffler. There are a lot of Cat Backs that do this even the HKS system does this and is to fit the stock cat like Evo23IG said. I am sure if you want a true 3 inch sell it and get another system that doesn't taper.

I have HKS Hipower and made 300WHP on 91 with just a stage 1. I don't think you will see any difference. My exhaust is 2.65 at the cat but no difference in power compared to other exhausts.

snoop, off topic but on which dyno did you make 300? The reason I'm asking is that I have all the Stage 1 stuff except for the cam gears and I made 293 on 93 octane and on a Mustang Dyno. Sounds like the cam gears (which you have, right?) is a worthwhile investment.

Well I am definately not going with Buschu exhaust plus I don't like the way Magnaflow muffler looks. Plus trust me my exhaust is more than loud enough, actaully its sometimes too loud, but its sounds amazing at WOT. I always loved the way Borla exhaust sound.
