STI vs EVO IX
STI vs EVO IX
Please, can we all be neutral and unbias when answering?
I've been reading up on the STI Stage 2 and IX (TBE and tune - Vishnu stage 1?) and can't really justify one being much better than the other. Both make about the same power (with Vishnu upgrades) on 91 octane gas. My conclusion is:
The IX makes more mid range power, but the STI makes more top end power. This would make the IX more fun around town. If cams will make a difference on the IX, then I would definately want a IX over the STI.
I think the STI is more reliable in the tranny department (correct me if I am wrong). I remember reading that the STI can handle 400 ft-lb of torque. I am not sure what the limit is on the IX's new tranny (with the new close gear ratios).
I'm not loyal to either...I just want the top performer and reliability between the two.
Thanks ahead for your insights/comments.

The evo tranny can handle 400 ft-lb easy, and cams do make a pretty significant amount of power in the evo.
Evo is easier to mod, and cheaper to get power out of. They are both really nice cars....it really depends on how much money you want to throw at it and your power goals.
If you are a roadcourse kinda guy....its a toss up in my opinion....until you start modding for power.

if you want to go fast without paying alot go with the evo.. stock sti blocks cant hold as much boost as the 4g63. thats why there is no stage 3 for the sti. The most you can get out of an sti SAFELY is arround 500 hp.
I went to Firebird raceway (Phoenix) two weeks ago, my comment are as neutral as they can be.
There was a rookie driver with his Evo 9 RS, the car had 480 miles on the odometer and he never took his car to the track on his life, he ran 13.0@106.28 and that was with ****y 60' times. The Evo 9 was bone stock.
On the other hand there was a more expert 06 STI driver(azrally) which was also running his car at the track, he ran a best of 13.1@103 with full TB,air filter and tunning
It might be coincidence but the Evo 9 proved to be superior. I always give the forum the chance to reverse roles and make their own smart judgement, how about is the Evo 9 was the one with the TB and the tunning and the 06 STI was the one stock? you see what I mean?
This is the topic from the STI owner in the NASIOC forum:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=915804
This second link that I am attaching has his dyno numbers before he put the full 3"TB

As you guys can see, I have no mercy with a moderately modded STI that couldn't beat a bone stock Evo 9 with a rookie driver.
my .2c

The NEW STi will cost you a lot more $$$ to mod up then an EVO IX
A IX with a K&N drop-in filter, MBC, and a reflash will blow your socks off.
Even Stock any IX is quicker then the STi

most people will tell you that it boils down to one thing, if you plan on modding/tuning go w/ an evo its extremely responsive to aftermaket parts. If you plan on keeping it stock go w/ an sti they seem to stay in very good shape over time. it seems suby's cars have a little more longevity to them than mitsu.
Well the engine in the STI is bigger so there is no doubt that it has a broader power band and delivery. While the low end grunt may be better than an EVO, it still no Cobra or Corvette, and in my opinion not really such an issue. Regardless the EVO IX is faster, makes more power stock, and make more power with bolt ons (for half the cost). To think that when (or if, just in case I get another case bad luck) I get a IX, a simple Flash, TBE, Drop In Filter, and MBC will allow me to hang with Stage 2 STIs.

First figure out what you want out of a car and what you want to do with it. Both make great all-around performance cars. Evos can make more power and if your into street racing or drag racing, I give them the nod. In other types of motorsports power isn't as important(a fast driver in a slower car will almost always beat a slow driver in a faster car), its a toss up. Drive both, figure out what you want and go for it. I went with the STi because it suits MY driving style better. I am faster around the course with it. Both are great cars.
On Evo boards the Evo will be best.
On Subie boards the STi will be best.
Of course the srt4 is always teh f@st4r!!!! LMAO
