Tales From the Dyno: 1/22 EVO IXs ecu doesn't like mods

We just tested yet another EVO IX. This one was fully modded with a complete exhaust (dp, cat-back and high flow cat). Running the stock ECU, it put down nearly typical stock numbers. Goes to show that the car doesn't respond to exhaust mods without a little ECU help. Then we reflashed it with a Stg 1 (aka Stg WTF) ecutek map. 91oct. Results were good...

WHP and Torque:

Boost and AFR:

It's interesting to see that the injectors run static at 7000rpm (notice the sudden enrichment and then gradual linear enleanment from there to fuel cut). This can be covered up by running the car leaner (say 11:1 across the board). But that's a bit too lean for the these cars on 91oct.

It's also nice to see how much low end boost response is helped by just remapping the MIVEC table.

Cheers,
shiv

Shiv,

Do you think with a boost controller + TBE any good gains can be seen on the IX with the stock ecu?

Wow with just the full exhaust set up I can too see some simular numbers? Don't you need to upgrade the fuel pump for a flash? or you don't need too?

A boost controller will help dyno numbers for sure. But just raising the boost alone will make the car more knock prone. The best way to get those big midrange gains is to MIVEC tuning. Raising boost will only get you 1/2 way there...

Did you tune the Mivec when I was down there? And also are you going to tune them when you come up to WA?

Shiv, If you are going to do tuning while you are in WA I would be interested. I have an IX MR with a 3" cat-back.

Please PM me with the tuning details/prices and date.

Thank you!

Shiv,

How does this dyno comparison compare with the difference in power between stock and stock with a tuned ECU?
