Question Would I need a tune for...

I've had an Xflash for my car with a turbo back and adj. gears on the factory cams for almost 2 years.

I'm adding Comp cams 272's and a fuel pump. I plan on getting a custom tune March when Shiv comes to Dyn4mance.

Will it be safe to drive till then? What should I set the gears to until I get it tuned?

Thanks.

i hope u plan on getting valve springs, lifters, retainers, ARP head bolts, & a head gasket to go with your cams!!!!!!!! otherwise as long as your not boosting too much u should be fine. but u will need a retune for sure.

my guess would be that it would be ok to drive on until then as long as you dont run a lot of overlap/retard, which could cause driveability problems...and according to this thread:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=180616

seems like shiv will be at Dyno4Mance in May unless something changed, because ill be taking a road trip down there to get my car tuned along with a few other friends.

No, I don't plan on getting valvesprings, lifters or retainers. They are not needed with these cams.

I was going to do the ARP headstuds just cause I get them for free and of course I would put in a new head gasket if I was to stud the motor but, I'm not even sure I'm going to do that since it is still overkill for my power level. And all of that is off topic anyway.

I knew it was one of those M months. LOL

I spoke to someone at Vishnu and they said I would be fine but, didn't seem very sure. I guess I'll see how it runs when I get the parts in and go from there.

you dont need a new valve train nor do you need head studs for a v390 package. But i wouldnt boost till you get a retune.

That's what I was thinking.

There is no way I will be able to excersize self restraint that long.

I wonder if I get the fuel pump from Vishnu and pay for the custom tune up front if they would hook me up with a through the mail reflash for what I've got until I get the custom tune. I tried explaining this to who ever it was I talked to but, I apparently wasn't making much sense to him.

yeah.. get a through the mail reflash for stage 1+. Ask Sean for a stage 1+ flash on 91, or 93 octane what ever you guys use over there.

Thanks, that was addressed a few posts up.

It just seemed strange that someone at Vishnu said it would be fine to run without a new flash. I mean they know more about their software than me but, I would think thats a pretty big change to throw at the existing tune.

If I don't need a flash, I'm still not sure what to set the cam gears at for these cams with the current tune I've got.

Your current flash WILL work with your mods. However, the car will not be able to make it's maximum capable power until you have the correct flash. For instance, it would be akin to running a car with a turbo back exhaust on the factory ecu. Will the car make more power than it did before? Yes. Will it make as much power as possible with that turbo back? No.

My suggestion is to run your current flash until the dyno day.

and btw, "someone is sh!ting on, around or about the coats."

Has anyone seen my shoes? I kicked them off in fit of joy. If anyone needs me I'll be over here puking shards of my own pelvis into this bush.
