We were down there on Sunday with Asitha's Stg 2 car. But during our first practice session the snap ring on his RPS POS carbon/carbon clutch broke. The transmission wouldn't engage neutral anymore so our day was pretty much over. It was a pity since things looked very promising until that moment.

Is the snap ring a weak point on many clutches, or is it a problem with the RPS unit?

We saw a snap ring failure a couple of years ago on our own shop car which ran an Exedy twin plate. Unfortunately, it's not a totally unheard of failure with pull type clutches. It's rare but when it happens, it truly sucks.

Alot of bad luck seemed to be spread out among some of the EVO teams. We decided at the last minute to do this time attack with a new "motor" package hoping to have some fun seeing as Cal Speedway is literally in our backyard. Well, we developed some problems Saturday so the crew loaded up the trailer, did an all nighter, and had the car back first thing in the morning. The joys of running in your own part of the state...
Sorry you guys came all the way down just to run into trouble. WORKS nearly missed out but found a 10 cent part just in time. But just barely.
It was nice to be able to catch up with Gerrard never the less.

Shiv, it only seems to happen when I drive What a shame the car was sure quick on street tires and it would have been fun to see how it would be on the R compounds. Oh well next time right?

Thanks for letting me drive FWIW

No, Shiv had a clutch failure of the same sort on the dyno last year...I think it was ludikraut's car....I think that was a stock clutch
