Only time I ever saw 27 mpg is when I drafted my father-in-law's fifth wheel at 65 mph on a 400 mile road trip. My car was pretty loaded down and had the roof rack on.

I drive conservatively and the most ive gotten is 255 miles. I filled up and had to put about 12.75 gallons in after that. Mileage did improve slightly after the TBE but we're only talking 1mpg. After getting a tune I could see MPG going up. AMS told me that after dynoing the evo 9, it runs really rich from the factory which would explain why leaning out could help MPG.

EVOs rich from the factory at WOT. Part throttle operation setting changes are not typically a part of performance re-tuning. I attribute improved part throttle efficiency (in this context) as a result of improved VE in those rpms from certain performance hardware and the SMART system.

its amazing that you can get improved gas mileage over stock by using the XEDE SMART.

Ted B,
did you tune the thing yourself or did Shiv do it? Actually thinking about turning in the AEM for an XEDE.

Shiv tuned my Xede. Be advised however that electronic tuning is 50% of the equation. The other 50% is mechanical tuning.

By mechanical tuning, do you mean mostly cam timing? If so, I wonder where that leaves us IX fellows.
