Track Wheels for a 9 MR
Track Wheels for a 9 MR
Okay I got my evo last night and need to find some track wheels. I dont care what they look like as long as they fit right and are the same size as stock. Please post your ideas.
What tire size would you run? Also I am going to be running a Toyo R1 or better race tire. Do you need spacers with these? Also what offset do you need?

You're better off running a little wideer wheel like 8.5-9" and running the 255's. You can run the stock rims with 255's but you won't get as could a contact with them as you would a 8.5-9" rim. I ran 255's on my stock rims for almost 2 years autox'ing and road course racing. Now I run 17x8.5 Enkei RPF1's and love them. They are super light and not all that expensive. I also run 17x8.5 Gram Lights with 245/40 A032r's as my street tire in the summer
BTW, the RPF1 will fit like stock eventhough it is 1/2" wider....as do my Gram Lights. No spacers and no clearance issues. If you're spending the money get something a little wider now or you might regret it later...

Sounds like good advice, do you happen to know the offset and such as well as the spacing?

I wouldn't use stock Enkeis, because they weigh 20.5lbs. If you do, then drive those daily and use the BBS (17.7lbs) for racing. I currently use my stock BBS's with 245/45-17 V710s for racing and Rota Torque (same color/style and 18lbs) with 255/40-17 for daily driving + drag racing.
If you want stock size rims other than the BBS for racing, then maybe the Kosei T1 or whatever they are, since they're only 15.5lbs. I know someone here in CO selling a used set for $650 that have only been used to autocross. I personally need to find some 17X9s that are lighter than my BBS rims, but I haven't found any yet. Anyone know the weight of the plain ole FNO1RC 17X9s?

Like any of us here are good enough to require lighter wheels at the circuit.
A pro like Chronohunter, I could understand, but the average Joe might as well save the $$$ and invest in more track time.

The overwhelming majority of wheel weight is in the rim itself, not the spokes or hub. Taking that into consideration, an 18" wheel that weighs 18lb may have more inertia than a 17" wheel weighing 20lb. Just something to consider...
