Xede Firmware & XUpdate Question
I just picked up a used xede for my 03 Evo. The install seems pretty straight forward however once I install it I had a question about determining whether it has V2 or V3 firmware.
Would it be as simple as attempting to communicate to the device with XMap3_2 and seeing what error pops up?
Lastly, what's the difference between XUpdate and say XMap3_2? Was XUpdate an earlier software used to upload to the Xede? Anyone know if the instructions here: http://www.vishnutuning.com/xede_support_evo.htm are up to date?
Lastly, The V360 non smart equipped map; per the description, the cam gears are set to "our specifications." Anyone know what those specifications are?
Thanks,
Fitz

Thanks for the cam gear specs.
I was able to communicate with the Xede using Xmap3_2 and successfully uploaded a V330+ map. Drove around for awhile with zero issues and the green light shining on the Xede. Later this week (assuming I can track down my boost leak) I'll retard my timing gears and update to the v360 map.

These maps are designed for an 2003-2004 EVO equipped with a cat-back, downpipe, cam gear (set -3 deg intake and -3 deg exhaust) and any combination of HKS 264/272 camshafts running 91, 93, or 100+ octane fuels. The brass restrictor pill in the boost line just before the factory boost control solenoid must be removed. In addition to raising boost by approximately 2-3psi and holds it more constantly to redline. It is highly recommended that update your factory ECU with our XEDEFlash to allow for higher midrange boost pressures and a higher rev limit.
Thanks,
Fitz

Vishnu Adjustable Cam Gears
Includes:
2 Adjustable Cam Gears
Why:
For more power, of course! Retarding the factory camshafts by 5 degrees (both intake and exhaust) improves power output and resistance to detonation substantially. And for HKS camshaft users, retarding them 2-3 degrees (both intake and exhaust) also helps output considerably. And unlike many other alternatives, our cam gears are secured by five allen screws, making them virtually impossible to loosen up with time and vibration..
Installation difficulty:
Intermediate
Estimated Installation Time:
2-3 Hours
Price:
$295 Black Vishnu Cam Gears

I actually PMed Dustin at Vishnu a couple of weeks ago and they are recommending -2/-2 settings for the HKS 264/272 and the 272/272. I installed my 264/272 cams last week and set them at -2/-2 per Dustins's recommendation. The stock cams are still at -5/-5, per Vishnu's recommendations. I ran them that way for a couple of years and they worked great.
