Vavle Springs??

Hey Shiv, are you guys planing on upgrading the valve springs and/or retainers along with or to compliment the cams? Will there be longevity issues or a greater risk in not matching the valve springs and retainers? Especially with the increased redline/fuel cut with the xedeflash. Currently it's at ??7400-7500 rpms. So where are we talking about....7800-8000 rpm? Sounds a little high. Can we safely reach these numbers with the stock valvetrain and higher lift cams?

I'm not a mechanic or a technician...that's why I ask. By the way...didn't you say you were going to see if you could smooth out the idle with 272/272 combo with the xedeflash? I'm waiting to see if you can make that setup a little more streetable before I purchase cams. How is that coming?

Thanks.

Sorry had a brain fart!? Trying to work at the same time. Obviously I am not a multi-tasker. Thanks for that correction MP5.

And since you are familiar with the engines and Shiv's xede...what is you opinion on the question?

Well I dont think that there are enough high mileage cam cars that have been torn down yet, but from past cammed 4G63 cars there doesnt hint to be head problems from cams as the factories are pretty aggressive to begin with. It is hard to imagine that there arent long term affects of the higher duration and lift cams on the stock hardware but honestly Im not worried with it and feel that it is a good comprimise as far as past history goes

I feel comfortable with that coming from you after reading many of your posts. You seem to know quite a bit. Thanks for the response.

Shiv, any thoughts?

NP bro. As for the past Vishnu approach they are a stickler for long term reliability as are many other GOOD tuner outfits I should let shiv speak for himself but I was quite impressed with the factory hardware- is there better sure there is but a head prob is different from a bottom end problem and I am also quite confident in that too. Were I was scared (and for good reason) was the subaru bottom end design and parts I sleep well at night knowing how durable the 4G is (not to say the subies cant be but it was always on my mind!)

Now...about the 272/272 question. Should I wait for Shiv to tune the xede and xedeflash for that setup? Or would the 264/272, that I think?? you currently are running, be a more "streetable" setup.

Let me back up a bit. I am currently running Vishnu stage 1 signature with samco intercooler hoses. I will be installing cams, pump, grounding kit (more for looks actually), iriduim plugs, xedeflash and possibly some other trinkets after the first of the year. Along with the obvious xede retune.

Um well I am quite pleased with the 264/272 combo I dont currently plan to throw in the other 272 unless shiv is getting some great gains. So its up to you to decide Im pretty happy. As far as the pump I am more concerned with shiv already having the proper maps if needed before I throw that in.
