Unhappy Shiv....SES Light....code PO420

Hey Shiv,

I installed the stage one turbo back signature and cam gears this past weekend. I have not recieved the XEDE yet (when can I expect it?). Anyways, after 2-3 days and 200 miles, the computer threw code PO420 " Low catalytic converter efficiency". The code was thrown when I was passing another car at 65 mph and 19 psig boost in 5th gear at about 3,000 rpm.

Is this since I have not installed the XEDE yet? Does the new catalytic converter take some time to break in?

Also, I just want to mention that my up-pipe had a pin-hole leak on the cat side after the flex-section. Just might want to closely look at the next batch to make sure the welds are solid.

Thanks in advance for your help and please let me know when I can expect the XEDE.

sorry, down pipe from dump to cat. It looked as thought the welder stopped shy of completing the weld on the "ring??" that is at the end of the flexible section. Sorry that I do not have digital pics.

You must mean down pipe. Thats strange, the welds on my Strd. TB were a work of art. I guess anything is possible though. As for your SES light, did you make sure the O2 harness was plugged back in securly and that you didn't pinch or break any of the wires.

Good suggestion as well as the cat turned the right way? (O2 bung should be downstream from the cat)

Well, I am about as sure as I can be regarding the integrity of the O2 sensor. I will check it again though. The mid pipe can only be installed one way (has O2 sensor bung in mid pipe) . cat can be installed one way - bolted flange on one side...V-clamp on the other side). Shiv tried to make it idiot proof...but they always build a better idiot!

Hi there,
Go ahead and clear the catalyst code and see if it comes back on again. The few times I've seen cars through this code was right after installing the exhaust system. Then they go away. Perhaps the catalyst material needs a few heat cycles to function optimally. Regarding the pin hole in the exhaust, this is news to me. Would you mind taking a picture of it and sending it me? Sorry for the inconvenience.

Regards,
shiv

Shiv,

I cleared the code last night and it has not come back yet. However, it may have to be a pending code for a period of time before it actually sets the SES.

Regarding a picture of the pin hole......I do not have a digital camera,(yeah, I know...still in the dark ages) but I will try to borrow one so I can take a picture this weekend before I have it welded up.

Also, could you please let me know when my XEDE will ship. I would also like to get a tracking number when it does ship. It might even help with the cat situation since the cat has to work harder when AFR are pig rich.

Below is my order ID to determine a status:

Order ID : 5478040

Thanks,

FWIW, his isn't the only one w/ the pin hole at the flex section weld area. I had mine ceramic coated and you can see a small 'trail' of carbon buildup right after the pinhole. Mine was at the turbo side of the flex section. Not large enough for me to really be concerned.
