Stage w/cam gears w/out

How much more hp does do the cam gears make over just a stage 1. Is it really worth adding them.
Wondering if I should purchase them and cant find a comparison on with and with out.

After seeing a dyno day, I can say that the cam gears are an AWESOME mod. They make the motor more knock resistant, allowing more the motor to safely handle settings that were aggressive before.

20-30HP and a safer running car is what you can expect from these cam gears. The power up top is completely transformed compared to the stock cam gears.

Noize, Is that cams and gears or just gears?

these maps are just the maps from the web...no custom tuning when these comparisons where made

I ran into a guy who had stage 1+ the other day, and he didn't like the rough idle the cams induced. Any others who feel the same way? I agree that from the performance stand point that the cams are a definite boost.

Sorry, I was talking about cam gears. I have a Stage 1. I see where he mistyped now.

Its totally a matter of personal preference. They do provide a good bump pretty much everywhere, and especially the midrange. My personal preference is that there's no way I'd want my car to idle that rough. Maybe I'm spoiled because my friends and I had Honda VTEC motors in the past where super hot cams idled exactly like stock, but the HKS 264/272 combination on the Evo is too rich for my blood. I'd much rather upgrade the turbocharger and make more power that way. Plus, I'd like to break the Stage 1 record on the dragstrip sometime this year.

Yes, stage 1 is xede/xflash turboback exhaust, and cam gears, 1+ utilizes the hks cams.

have anyone tried the Tomei or Jun cam? How are they compare to what the review said about the rough idle. Is there ways to reduce the roughness?

Yes Shiv has reported to have a fix for the idle roughness with his firmware upgrade (on the xede of course)....If I am wrong, I will stand corrected

Dyno4mance's dyno graph clearly shows a nice increase in power from the cam gears from 3500 to 5000 in the rpm range...very nice!

I'm also interested in the Jun 264/264 cams. I hear they deliver substantially more power than HKS 264's...can anyone confirm/deny this? Anyone with experience with the two?

I know Vishnu tunes for HKS....but would they like to say a word or two about the Jun?

Thanks!

After a search and read of many Jun cam threads I think I've learned a lot...

Jun 264's appear to be more aggressive than HKS 272's...yet the intake with Jun's is less aggressive.

I guess what I'd like to know is how is Jun getting a better power delivery out of their 264's over HKS 272's?

I know Vishnu has tuned for idle smoothness and been able to do so with HKS 272's...can they do the same with Jun 264's?

I've also heard everything from Jun 264's are for racing only and will only add power to the top end, to they add power everywhere-including the mid-range. Anyone go from the 264/272 HKS combo to Jun 264's?

Thanks for your opinions/info!

Thanks for all the replys. I will have to think on it a bit more before I get the Cam gears.

I thought this was about Cam gears getting them installed and what extra power they could make. Not cam info there are other threads for cams.

I don't mind the rough idle alone the part I don't like is that the idle will sometimes jump ~400 rpm by itself. This happens fairly often when waiting at the stoplights or in traffic. The performance IS awesome though no doubt about that.
