Need Opinions

Does this exhaust manifold look like a good option to run with the atp kit. It has been run by somebody here and they like it on the atp kit. It has a lifetime warranty against cracking. I just wanted opinions. It is made by SSautochrome.

The ebay exhaust manifold thread has covered this a bit. $300, but no coatings. I would wonder how the heat would mitigate things under the hood. Couple guys have bought and installed them, but no dyno charts in sight. FWIW I'm not sure who's butt dyno reads higher, but I'm sure I could get them to start arguing about it. Maybe Al could even chime in and call it a "moon" butt. I'm holding out until someone gives some scientific HP gains and longevity reports. Seems the honda crowd has bought an assload of stuff from these guys. Also have never heard anything about their "lifetime warranty" and whether they stand behind it or not. They say you get what you pay for...but then again you are only paying for a 2 flanges, some bent pipe and a couple welds.

FWIW, the borla exhaust at $625 comes from a reputable company with a reputable warranty and good customer service. I guess they had some issues with their first batch of headers due to the ceramic coating chipping off, but David Borla says that has been addressed by a more robust ceramic coating capable of higher EGT's. I've also heard good things about the DNP header, but haven't seen any quanitifiable results from either of the two. From there the price range starts to get stupid for tubular manifolds...

What I wanna know, is with all the concern for underhood temps skyrocketing, has anyone wrapped their manifold in Thermo-Tec or the like and measured before and after temps? I know lots of race teams use the aluminum-foil type wraps, though I know only of thermo-tec as a brand. Just a thought...

We're testing out a car today who was a strong 1+ just got the dnp manifold and a few more goodies. I personally like the quality of the dnp manifold, it is still 304 but its jet coated and comes with a one year warranty against cracking. I'd look into that or the borla one considering borla has a million mile warranty on all of their products.

I bought an intake from SS Autochrome off ebay once a while back, and didn't like it. I ended up re-selling it on ebay.

Thats what I wanted to know. How much will your turbo kit cost with the tubular manifold. Warranty? But I think I am going to want to do the full tubular setup. Just deciding the best rout. Quality and dependability. I will look at the Borla. I would love to see the difference on a atp kit with a tubular to the full vishnu turbo setup.

Haven't seen the dyno chart but I believe Shiv said a while back the difference between a tubular mani vs. the stock cast one was about 40hp all in the upper rpm range. Then it's your call whether you want to sacrifice the reliability of the cast manifold for the extra cost and inherent risk of a tubular manifold for that extra power up top.

You Vishnu guys got a Thermocouple or anything else to measure underhood temps on all the cars you see on the dyno? Would be nice to see some real data comparing the two manifold options.

If you can get a tubular stainless manifold, with a warranty, it'd be better than a bulky cast manifold. The real advantage aside from increased flow characteristics over the stock piece would be distribution of heat energy. Cast manifolds act like a large heat sink because of their sheer mass, and they transfer a large amount of that heat back into the head; which eventually leads to increased combustion chamber temperatures. A tubular stainless style manifold will make better use of the thermal energy by using it to drive the turbo, and dissipating the rest of it better than a cast unit. Not to say that there isn't heat transfer from these style manifolds, but it is significantly less.
