Blue Evo made 234whp on second run. Please post the other dyno slip. And also both vehicles were taken to 7000 RPM, the EVO IX peak horsepower at 6500 RPM and the 05 EVO VIII peak horsepower at 6000 RPM....

The EVO IX still advance intake cam timing up to 6000 RPM, that why the power carries over to 6500 RPM.

The exhaust on the Blue VIII was freakin great! Not obnoxiously loud, and definitley growlier than stock...I'm getting it soon too! I didn't get a chance to record the dyno slip from the VIII and I wasn't around for the 2nd run.

I'm really confused, how in the first dyno, is the IX low on torque (well compared to the HP) then on the second run, it loses 5WHP and gains 12 lb/ft of torque. I am just trying to understand why the numbers are jumping all over the place. Even for the blue VIII the numbers are jumping all over the place. I know when tuning the numbers can fluctuate, but these cars are stock or near stock.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy... It's called heat soak, and cooling a car off before another pull.

Oh ok I understand now, it's heat soak, that explains horsepower and torque numbers swapping positions like a hooker in bed. If I ever get an EVO and I get my car dynoed on that dyno and somebody asks me, what were your baseline numbers and I say well actually I'm not sure, heat soak . I understand heat soak, but what I don't understand is how somebody can get an accurate representation of how much power they are making with dyno numbers jumping all over the place. No biggie, it doesn't really matter, I'm just trying to gather as much information about the IX as I can, cuz I'm honestly thinking about going all out and trying to get a IX instead of an VIII (even though financially getting a IX will be very difficult for me).

This is the reason why people do 3 power pulls on a dyno through different conditions, cooled down engine, operating temperture engine, and right after a run pull. On all 3 conditions horsepower and torque will not be the same. Also his numbers were not a big change. We did 4 pulls and it stayed consistant after that. I only printed out his lowest and highest dyno pulls. These are some factors from the ECU judge:

Engine temperature compensation: cooler engine temperture, vehicle will run richer, operating tmeperture engine, the vehicle will run optimal to the ECU's fuel map with less compensatons.

Air Temperture compensation- apply the same similiar to engine temp compensation.

So I hope this is a better understanding.

whoa whoa, slow down killa! a dyno is simply an estimation to how much power you make on a car. here are the #'s i have for the blue car (my other evo). it was dynoed at Dyno-Comp back in Jan 2005 BONE STOCK. that place uses a dyno dynamics dyno. the car put down 237.3whp "all over the place" w/235TQ. Mustang Dynos on avg rate about 10% lower (&closer to realistic) than a DD dyno so that means the blue '05 would have put down about 213 @ Mynes' shop. this car is also untuned. the only mods it has are a drop in K&N & the HKS Hi-Power catback. given the base "educated guess calculation" # of 213 minus 234 that the car put down on the Mynes dyno tells me that the mods made approximately 21 more whp & 45 more ftlbs of TQ.

of course we can argue this topic till we are blue in the face, but the fact of the matter is we don't have 93 octane here in AZ (highest is 91 except 101 race gas), so our cars have to pull timing resulting in lower #'s. under the same conditions above with 93 octane, the blue car STOCK would have put down about 220whp & 226 TQ. other dynos will read higher (Dynojet for example) which IMO is a false account of power just to get into magazines. have you noticed that all mags use Dynojet? yes it shows a number, but it is far from accurate.

for a basis of comparison, the '03 put down 260whp w/283TQ @ Mynes' shop. that car has a base Dynoflash, drop in K&N, 3"TBE, MBC @ 25psi, & a Walbro. it is also "untuned" since the Walbro went in after the flash AFR reading 10.4). the bottom line is that if you want a car to produce numbers, it has to be TUNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
