AZ Car Registration

I need to register a car that definitely wont pass smog and MIGHT pass Level 1 inspection (VIN match only) I live in the Phoenix area and ive been told to get a PO Box in Wickenburg, or anywhere but phx or tucson and you're fine, so you can avoid smog. If anybody has been through this or knows the answer let me know thanks

You can get away if you register your car at the MVD in Yuma. I was just at Wickenburg on Friday and Monday, I think they are too close to Phoenix to be considered a independent traffic regulation town.

Please, contact Bishiboy on this forum, I believe he lives in Yuma and does not have smog rules.

I also want to pitch in some more info, if your car is a AWD they would only do the gas tanl probe and iddle test but wouldn't test the rollers.

Never understimate your sources, you might pass the emissions.

They normally do. I recently took my 94 Stealth R/T to the emission( because it was registered in California) and they did not plug it in. My 94 R/T is a Hybrid, can run OBD I or OBD II.

I am strong on my statements when I say that he might get away if he has a AWD car, they only read the bar code on the door, they put the probe on the gas tank and they plug the probe on the exhaust tip for iddle only. This means he has good chances to pass.

He needs to elaborate on the type of car he is bringing to the smog test. If the car is prior to 94 he can get away with many other stricter stupid test that otherwise could make you fail.

Base on my own experience and having taken many many cars to the emissions in AZ if the car does not have the OBD II plug they wouldn't kick you out for small fails like spark plug missfire, throtle possition sensor, electronic starter etc, etc.

Giving the full info on his car is essential. Also if he is in the military he can legally say that he resides whenever he wants to reside and he can register his car wherever the hell he wants according to the sailors and soldiers act from George W Bush. I am just throwing some options.

If a vehicle emissions test is required and the vehicle is out-of-state at the time of registration renewal, you may apply for an out-of-state emissions exemption from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.

Resident Exemptions

Special Military Exemption – An Arizona resident who is a member of the U.S. Armed Forces, including a member of a National Guard or reserve unit, called to active military duty outside of Arizona in support of a worldwide contingency operation of the U.S. Armed Forces is eligible for a one-year VLT and registration fee exemption.

Motor vehicles owned or leased must have been currently registered in this state in the member’s name on the date he or she received orders to report to active military duty.

This exemption allows the registration of the motor vehicle to be renewed for one year without payment of the VLT and registration fees. The applicant must ensure all other registration requirements are met and submit a completed Special Military Exemption form at the time of registration.

Note:Exemption is limited to no more than 2 motor vehicles and will apply to a surviving spouse or personal representative. Qualified individuals who already paid VLT and registration fees while eligible for the exemption, are not entitled to a refund but may apply the paid VLT and registration fees to that motor vehicle’s next registration year.
Special Military Exemption Executive Order 2003-10 – A member of the Arizona National Guard regular or reserve component called to active military duty (inside or outside of Arizona) in support of Operations Enduring Freedom or Noble Eagle is eligible for a one-year VLT and registration fee exemption.

Motor vehicles owned or leased must have been currently registered in this state in the member’s name on the date he or she received orders to report to active military duty.

This exemption allows the registration of the motor vehicle to be renewed for one year without payment of the VLT and registration fees. The applicant must ensure all other registration requirements are met and submit a completed Special Military Exemption Executive Order 2003-10 form at the time of registration.
