Alright homies, I just purchased an Evo 8 today.
I need help really bad.
From what ive been told, I need a tune. Right now Its idling pretty rough and running rich. I feel like im driving a monster struck.
I dont know much at all about boosted cars, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
From what Flo told me is that I may have aftermarket cams, I need a tune, new spark plugs and good cleaning.

Congrats on the purchase... you will love it. Here are just couple of pointers that I've done since I've had my evo in the past 8 years.
I would do a visual inspection under the hood, check all the vacuum lines near the intake manifold/throtle body area to make sure there is no leaks or any lines disconnected. Check the TB and make sure there is the idle speed screw still in tact. Also check to make sure the old owner didnt do a EGR delete. I run copper plugs on mine BPR8ES gapped at .024, I change them every 10K since they dont last as long as the iridiums.
Do you have a wideband? how do you know it is running rich? did you pull the plugs and see if its wet or blistering on the tip. Does it have the factory coils? check them make sure they are not seperating/broken.
If everything is good, check your vacuum reading on your boost gauge, is it less than -10? and does it idle around 900 rpm? you can adjust the idle screw and try raising the idle manually. Another thing that is common on the 8s are the TB gasket, they leak. if possible do a boost leak test. I think Flo has one.
At this point if everything is good, check base timing, manually crank the crank shaft to TDC, pull the timing gear cover off and see if they line up, there are notches on the 12 oclock position and point indicators on the cam gears. if they are off by a tooth or so don't panic, the ECU can correct that but if they are way off then it may be the cause.
Now if everything is good, we can start looking into the ECU. Since Flo suspected that it was aftermarket cams it is likely that the ECU been touched before, I wonder if they upgraded injectors. If the injectors was updated I wonder if the tuner scaled the injectors right. If they are not scaled properly it could lead to poor idle and poor AFR. I have a Tactrix cable and I can pull your MAPs and check it out for you.
Who knows, your rough idle might be fixed by just changing the plugs or a loose vacuum line. Hope this help you, may be we can check it out at the meet, I'll bring my cable and laptop!!
Enjoy your Evo..... i'm at 116k miles and so far no major problems... still on stock ECU, stock TC, stock tranny, stock block, stock valve train..... although I'm under powered.... i have put more than 100+ drag launches..... 200+ third gear pulls... countless break boosting from 2d/3d gear pulls.... I am on my third clutch though, lol.... i know my car is not fast but it so much fun to drive!!

Thanks for the info bro. I'll try to do most of the checks within the next couple days. I'll see you at the meet for sure or if you want to meet up sooner sometime during the day that way we would have more daylight and you could get a be look at what I'm working with.
I'm just scared I dug my own grave after buying the car. Hopefully it will be running smooth after a few minor tweaks.
Judging from the pics of the engine bay that you showed me, there MIGHT be a homeless man stuck somewhere in between the radiator and the downpipe. His arm might be caught in the pulleys and belts. I would check that first, as this might clear up some issues. Lol jk Fo real Congratz on the pickup
I finally own an Evo! It's not that pretty but it's my baby
Kid, remember the X is a pig weight wise versus the 8/9! Read reviews on an X before you look into buying a specific brand...

The gr+ pro have a helper spring which will help in comfort... Unfortunately, I am on HKS hipermaxIII sport and they are far from soft.. But fortune auto may work for you... You need to just check around for reviews. Decide what's important... If its riding soft and not low, I would stay with what you have and spend the cash elsewhere

Totally my fault, I was at work when I was Sexting you and googling all kinds of crazy evo how-to's haha. Then battery died, I didn't bring my charger with me
Sorry! I still don't have my phone charged in fact thanks for reminding me lol. Can you meet tomorrow then? LMK.Alright homies, I just purchased an Evo 8 today.

Congrats again on the purchase I'm happy for ya brother!
And yeah hear it from me, the noob; it could be the larger cams/timing making it sound monster truck-ish (I actually like that sound!) Remember, like Blake's Evo? The lopping sound you hear is from that. But if you really need a tune, lets go to Streamline Performance a new shop that opened up in Jan. The tuner from Leaf Racing split and created this shop. Its the only place on island street-tuning Evo's as specialty. And when you're ready get a tune from Chris Black whenever he's down again.
But yeah like all says, I would suggest weeding out all the problems and possibilities that you wouldn't need a tune just yet. Then again you're hearing it from a noob I probably don't know what I'm talking about XD
I was to you're the person to talk too! Lol

One thing, does it leak oil? what type of mods does it have?
Good advice as always, I'll look into that too! =P

It was originally planned for noon but I change it to 8pm assuming more people would be available to attend given that Saturday might we had nearly 8 Evos thy came out to the nex. Not bad for a last minute meet.
