Unhappy Another Lancer out of commision...

Well... my totally awesome day has been ruined by my trip home. I was zooming down the exit-only lane of the 91 to exit Imperial highway and I got into the leftmost turn lane. I was waiting for the light to turn green, listening to Nelly's Pimp Juice when all of a sudden i see bright lights in my rearview mirror. I thought wait a minute those lights are moving pretty fast and I better get out of the way. I slammed on the gas and pulled a hard left aiming for the shoulder of the off-ramp but then the truck hit me as I was making the escape. The truck hit me on my rear right side crushing my bumper and warping my quarterpanel, which knocked me off the side of the off-ramp spinning and flipping. When the car finally settled at the bottom, it was upside down and I was pretty banged up. Like five minutes later I unbuckled myself and crawled out of the car to find that my car was dead and no one was coming to see if I was ok or if i needed help. I was shaking too much to try crawling up the hill so i went to the other side of the car to look for my cell phone. My cell phone battery was dead and my car wouldnt even turn on so i could try and get some power to the phone using the charger. I was stuck in the dark, no phone, at the bottom of the off-ramp hill... I felt like ****ing crap. Eventually i started crawling up the hill only to find a police on a bike setting up his radar. I walk up to him and asked him if he could help me, he freaked out after he saw my car @ the bottom of the hill and immediately called for an ambulance and backup. Meanwhile he asked me questions about what happened... so i explained the story. I asked him if he saw a big truck that had any damage on it pass by and he said no cuz he just got there. I looked around to see if any witnesses were there, and there were none. The ambulance came first and they treated some cuts in my head and gave me some ice for a rather nasty bruise on my side. Later the backup arrived and then they asked me some questions. They asked me to describe the truck that hit me, and I couldnt because it was dark and his lights blinded me. I told him it was a lifted SUV which had headlights that looked like a late 90's model suburban, and he explained to me what can happen. He told me I can report it to the insurance and claim it totaled and get a new car... but i'd have to suffer from increased premiums. Or I can pay out of pocket to fix it or get a different car. I understood my options and asked for a tow-truck to tow the car to this body-shop I used before. The tow truck came and towed the car and the police left, leaving me stranded with a dead cell-phone. I had to walk 2 hours to get home, and here I am typing up this story. I literally feel like crap, and I come home to find that 1/2 the forums has turned against me. I wish I would have died in this accident, at least i wouldnt have to deal with the forums or insurance or police or having to get a new car and put my life back together.

**** man that is bad. Glad your OK, and just think of it as a small bumb in the road (tarmac) of life. A car can be replaced, a life can't. That's why the hit and run driver should be burned at the stake! For all he knew you could have been killed in that accident. It's amazing how low some people are...it's discouraging.

Man, I'm very sorry for what happened to you. So sad and I feel your pain. I'm glad you're ok, man. So sorry for the lost of your car. I can't believe the police, the ambulance or tow truck didn't gave you a ride home. That SOB truck f**k you up real bad. I know what you're trying to do, you're trying to get away so the truck wouln't hit you but he still did. And he hit and run you. That is freaking bad. You shoulda stayed where you are and let him hit you instead, that way he can't run and will not be able to drive his truck with a damaged front end. Anyway, I'm very glad you're ok. Just take it easy and be careful next time.

The reason i tried to go off to the side is to "minimize damage" to my car and to the truck and to that nice bimmer in front of me that I was ogling at. I learned about minimizing the damage from this defensive driving class I went to. The accident occured at rush hour, which explains why no witnesses stayed... they all wanted to go home and relax. Same with the police and the ambulance and the truck driver, most likely they were gonna get off their shift soon and they didnt wanna spend some extra time to help someone out.

Damn Kareem, that really sucks. I am glad that you are all right. It really pissess me off when I hear about stuff like this. The stock brake systems on these trucks are not powerful enough to stop them once they are lifted and have monster tires on them because of the changes in center of gravity, and the gobs of additional intertia the tires throw off. I tested my Jeep when I lifted it and put 31" tires on it and it reduced my braking distance by an average of 12% which is pretty huge. If I see any suburbans today with front end damage, I am reporting them to the police and letting air out of not one but two of their tires. **** them and their never-going-to-see-dirt ***** enlargers.

I can't believe someone would hit and run and just because it was rush hour no one followed him or stopped. If you had a witness than your ins. would pick up 100% of the bill (that's what my insurance said). But come on man, nothing is ever that bad where you'd rather be dead. There's always another day and Aja is still around to keep your spirits up. **** that happens on these forums is trivial...don't fret the trival ****.

Put an add in the paper inquiring if anyone saw the wreck on the date and the time in which it occured. People do this all of the time in Dallas and sometimes it does work. One of those people who witnessed the wreck may feel a little bit guilty now and respond.

You might even want to consider letting the local media in on it. Here is Chicago, hit and runs are big no-nos and people get on the news all the time looking for help.

Glad you're OK, Kareem.
