haha its just the beginning and I'm wondering why I bought it. I got it for a relatively good deal and kept the base tune on it for over a year and was happy though, so I feel like I still got my money's worth out of it. The AP with its base tune on it was significantly cheaper than a custom tune for my otherwise stock evo. I don't think I'd do it again, but I also don't think I regret it too much either..
700, Hell no. I could buy a decent laptop for that and a tactrix cable and pay someone to do it.
My only complaint is one they can't address, and that's that I have to get a wideband to monitor wideband as it only picks up the narrowband.
Switching to valet mode and switching to economy mode without having to grab my laptop and start a program or worry about anything have been great though. And once (if ever) I go E85. I'll be even more happy that I can keep it in the car for if I can't find E85 anywhere...

I've been having a guy here locally help me get my car running and lately if I don't owe him any money he won't return a phone call or even simply respond to a text and let me know whats up...apparently he has sent my old turbo to FP and they said that due to the age of the turbo they couldn't rebuild it and I would have to buy new...ok...new is good...but I have now been waiting over three weeks and I can't even get a response and I'm tired of waiting...so...does anyone know where or does anyone have a complete EVO IX turbo setup for-sale...
I fill your pain I cant stand when someone stands you up, no call or text ppssshhh.
Wish I had something for you man, all I have laying around is a 8 turbo. Did this guy say he ordered you a new turbo
And if so what was it?
I actually have no idea if the turbo has even been ordered...last I knew he said he was gonna check his notes and I believe he was gonna order the hta3586...whether or not he actually ordered it I don't know...
*sigh* after a few too many local road snow seasons my whopping 50k miles on an '03 VIII is showing a lot of under carriage wear and tear. I originally wanted to dig out the tranny and send it off to Shep and put in a new clutch.
50k+ on an '03 stocker! Take that - hii yah!
It appears that a lot of old bushings are going to get replaced. I think I'm going to pull the whole front subframe and paint it ... any suggestions on paint?
Plus I've got to disassemble my Ohlins and get a new slider. The old slider chrome flaked off *sigh* which probably means my oil is gone and damping is at a minimum. I hate cheap slider chrome finishes. Chrome being porous doesn't respond too well to our wonderful salt spray.
Does anybody know of a good one step saltish cleaner? I've got to spend a little time scrubbing the undercarriage, before I start to get into stuff using a light die grind age action.
And yes I use an old Xede for all my programming fun. Time to get that Tactrix cable more at home in teh ride.

See... I always thought they were a waste. But it was just too easy and too good of a deal to pass up on. I got mine for 400 after intensive searching and bartering, a Hell of a deal for what they go for. And came to find out they are quite useful. Sure it's not as good as free combined with a laptop. But I can throw it in my glove box and always have it ready to go. I have like 10 maps on it (from the previous owner, but 3 of them are useful and I've used all 3). It is a piece of cake to switch map. It doubles as a gauge for anything the sensors on the car can get (including boost, which is pretty cool). And all the fancy gadgetry they put into it (virtual dyno, virtual 0-60, etc) is all pretty cool too.

I might have been able to, but most shops charge $500.00 for a tune. I had no mods at the time, so it would have been a tune to a completely stock car. Furthermore, to tune with the open source options, I would have needed a wideband, boost gauge, tactrix cable, and laptop to begin with. I had *none* of that stuff at the time. If I were more patient, I could have purchased that stuff first, but when I saw the AP for sale, I figured $350.00 actually got me a diff map, not the promise of a different map if I could trust the tuner or myself to do it. Furthermore, when I dropped the TBE on it, it allowed me to run their stage 2 map without any difficulty either. That's two diff maps configured to work for my car at this altitude on this octane that I was able to do by myself in no time at all for $350.00.
I'll say this again: Would I do it all over the same way? Probably not, but I do not think that the AP is the useless POS that people make it out to be. If I were familiar with the accesstuner race software, I'd be able to do everything that the openecu stuff could, sans speed density...something I'm not completely sold on yet anyway.
You guys aren't wrong, the money spent on the AP could have gone elsewhere but it didn't. If I could turn bad decisions into money, I'd be a bazillionaire. I guess I'll just live with my AP and herpes instead. I know I can get rid of at least one of them now that I have a better idea of what im doin!

If you want to talk about expensive ways to learn we can talk about how much money I dumped into my old camaro before I decided I needed to learn about cars for myself!
Since then I've made it a point to do everything possible on my car by myself or at least with the help of others and me watching
Bingo, that's why the AP is such a rip. Sure a lot of development goes in to it. And sure it probably really is worth that much. But if they made it cheaper, it would soon become one of the widely used tools in the automotive industry.

But even at 300. I basically got, at least 4 useful tunes for 400 dollars. And I can keep the device I use to switch them (and the cable) in my car.
Plus, with COBB not tuning anymore. There's not really any one super trustworthy to tune my car around here anymore. Sure there's Nate, and eventually I will probably go to him. But for now it's nice not to have to rely on anyone. Once I get to the point that I NEED a custom tune. Then I'll worry about it. But that'll be quite awhile down the road.
