Hey Brian, I thought about that. But registration in VA is an every year affair. That reg expires next month. Once expired, I have to get reregistered in VA (which I can't do for obvious reasons) or get registered in CA. Having expired tags is baad.

There are some 3 inch systems that allow you to use your 2.5 inch OEM cat. But they typically taper the 3 inch pipe down to 2.5 inches to 2.5 for the cat. I have the GHL/ Forge Motorsports exhaust. It's a true 3 inch turbo back system. As such, you can't install the 2.5 inch stock cat...

Slip em a twenty
I once had a modded car that I couldn't get passed when the time came to get it smogged. So I did what my dad once did. I went by the place a couple times till I saw a guy that seemed cool operating the tests. Then I went in for the test and left a twenty in the ashtray half hanging out. Well, in the previous tries, it failed, but this time magic. It miraculously passed and my twenty seemed to have disappeared. Maybe it'll work for you maybe it wont but no harm in trying.
look if the intake is modifided before the mass airflow sensor it is legal and as long as the crank case breather tube is hooked up to the intake its legal you do not need an EO number on your intake as long as its in front of the MAF in terms of flow . furthermore all OBD2 vehicals most 96' and up (94+ on Toyota)must have an Origanal Equipment catylist and as most mits an Origanal Equipment Warm Up Catylist (this is the huge bulge below the exh. manifold ) but in the case of the evo the warm up cat will be located downstream of the turbo . hope this helps
p.s the only way they will know if it is an aftermarket cat is if they see new welds and a variance in the pipes diameter .

im sorry but california healt and safety code sec902.1 states that on OBD2 vehicals the cat must be replaced with an OE cat . there is no rule saying you must wait 50k miles to replace with an aftermarket cat . an aftermarket cat would be just as illegal at 50k as it would at 18k . and why would you replace the cat a 50k when the federal emissions warrnty is 8years /80k miles and california emissions warrant is 7years /70k miles.
