I got a ticket and have a question
I live in California where they require a front license plate and it's "illegal" to have tint on the front side windows. So of course i have no front plate and have tint on the front side windows.
I got a fix-it ticket for this, but on the ticket it says i must appear by April 7, 2005. Which is a year away, but last week I got a letter in the mail saying that i must appear by April 7, 2004. I know they give you 3 months to take care of the violation, but I guess the CHP screwed up on the ticket.
Should I go by date on the ticket that i signed? or should I take care of it now? If i wait, would I have a problem if I get pulled over again? Can I just play dumb and say I never got the letter in the first place, so I can go off the date on the ticket? Thanks for your help guys

I'd go by the letter, b/c if you don't show up and their records say you were supposed they'll put a warrant out for you and if you get pulled over again you could get hauled in, although you have the ticket that says 2005, it's going to be a pain in the *** to take care of later and to fight everything in court so I'd just go take care of it
have you passed the time in which you are supposed to show up to court? Cause usually, if they don't "receive" your ticket w/money by the date, or you don't show up to court, they can and usually will put out a warrant for failure to pay/failure to show in court. I'd call the court and let them know you had a family emergency which took ya outa town, just got back into town and need to take care of it. Its not lying, its saving ur ***.

Go to the court and talk to one of the clerks. Show them your ticket and tell them that you did not know when you were supposed to show up to court because the ticket was showing 04/07/2005. They will give you a new court date to appear.
As far as your ticket goes, it's just a fix it ticket. All you have to do is show proof that you fixed the problems on your car. Then you will pay a small court fee (probably 10-20 dollars).
Also, if you have a buddy who's a cop, I would have him sign off the ticket and all you do is send in your payment and not have to lose a day of work and go to court.
