Works filter and IC ?'s
Works filter and IC ?'s
I was curious what options one would have for an intercooler upgrade if using Works approach of the panel filter with regards to piping. Are there aftermarket i/c piping that will work with stock air box? If not would Works advocate the use of a cone style filter? And lastly aren't they leaving some ponies on the table when sticking with the panel filter approach. Any insight would be great help with my build plans. By the way I have used the search button already to no avail.Thanks.
I can't answer your question in regards to the intercooler, but we've found the stock air box flows extremely well with the use of a good filter, and has the added advantages of being fully insulated from warm engine air, instead ducting only fresh air from the outside, and also has a plenum design which also improves flow. Our drop in filter flows extremely well and also does a great job of keeping the air clean. Our EVO VIII RS time attack car was pushing 500 horsepower and used a stock air box with our drop-in filter no problem.

Thank you for a very timely reply. Looks like pretty damn good customer service to me!!! Anyone using a stock airbox with aftermarket i/c piping? What was the setup on the time attack RS?
I am not aware of any aftermarket upper IC piping that fits well with the stock airbox. The LICP can be changed no problem and there are several companies making those. My ETS UICP will not fit the stock airbox (but will fit the stock battery).
Thank you both for your input. After picking through the pics of the Time Attack RS it looks as though they used a stock upper with possibly upgraded couplers. I guess if you want to go Works then you decide to live with stock upper. I suppose you could always just upgrade the intercooler and lower piping only but seems as though that the upper would be a bottle neck in that system. Thanks again to all who replied. It helped form my decision.

Hi all,
I use an AMS intercooler with Nisei Intercooler pipes and poper t bolt clamps and stock airbox.
the nisei intercooler piping works perfectly with the stock airbox, but you do need to run their mini battery kit.
LICP is the biggest restriction, and i/c is only really neccersary after 350whp.
