Would love to hear your opinion
Would also love to hear some reviews on 7670 as im tossing up between the 2.
Could anyone give me a comparison response wise to a DBB FP green?
My green is a leaking piece of crap and i wanna throw it in the bin
Has anyone posted dyno plots of a 7163 on an Evo 8 or 9 yet?

That's the turbo I'd really love to see results for.

I don't understand why any of you would want to run anything smaller than the 7670.

Main reason there is interest in the 7163 is that looks to be able to produce nearly the same power as a 7670 but with an earlier boost threshold and better transient response. Based on wheel size, the 7163 ought to be pretty close to an FP Red or BBK-3B in power potential. With that said, I'd say there's no point in Evo owners looking at anything below the 7163.

A big +1 to everything mrfred said.

Perrin did some comparisons between the 7163 and 7670 on an STI: http://blog.perrinperformance.com/bo...test-and-tune/

Massively improved boost threshold relative to the 7670, but it only gave up about 22whp. I'd take that trade any day.

If you scroll further down that post they compare it to a stock '08 STI turbo. The EFR7163 doesn't lose much performance relative to the stock turbo at the lower RPMs but walks away from the stock turbo at higher RPMs.

The efr7163 seems to spool a bit slower than vf48 turbos so should be more or less on par with evoIX turbo. That combined with low 500s whp and what I presume is near instant transient response should make it really interesting. I'd like to see what the turbo can do completely maxed out too, as in single scroll high A/R big runner manifold. Probably won't loose too much in spool given how small it is but maybe get very close to 600whp.

Because some people like keeping the response and the point shoot nature of an Evo
I live near the mountains and i drive on tight windy roads A big turbo is useless there.
Im not after a dyno queen or a drag car im after something that has a nice area under the curve for blasting mountain roads.
Too many people venture away from the purpose that this car was built & that is Destroying corners! Straight line stuff is for girls haha!

Biggest problem with these comparisons is that on an STI, you naturally loose a lot of tq up top because of the top mount setup and its inherent inefficiency. On a front mount setup, i'm sure that 20 whp would translate to more like 50-80.

It's not very useful as a comparison until you know what turbine housing they used on the 7670, which isn't stated on that page. Anybody happen to know what it was?
The 7163 apparently was using the .64 a/r housing which should make it come on nice and early.

At the moment, I don't even see any .64 a/r housing listed as an option for the 7163, looking at the Full-Race web page for the turbo.

The 7670 is on a t3 .83 housing. It's a pretty useless comparison though as they haven't maxed the turbo's out, yes the 7163 only give up 22hp around 470, but what does it do near 600?

My guess is the 7163 will never make it without pretty exotic fuels. Compressor flow isn't everything....

We have done tests with the 7163 with v-band (a/r 0.85) housing but not on a 4G6x engine and we done around 580hp with 45mm restrictor.
Just about the same as we get with our special 7670 with Tial v-band housing but with earlier spool. It's a very very good turbo for our application!

I've been searching for a manifold for BW v-band so that I can use a 7163 on my 4G64 without any luck. Have anyone seen any BW v-band manifold?

Can i ask what engine the 7163 was used on?

Very cool. 4G63 evo or 4B11 evo? Either way I'm excited to see some results.

I recall mrfred mentioning that Full-Race had come up with a bottom-exhaust configuration for the 7163 on 4G63 that worked, but that Geoff just needed to find some time to finish it up. Has anyone heard any updates on that front?

The 45mm restrictor - is that for a Rally class? The 580 hp is at the crank, right?
