Adjustable Cam Gears for 272 Upgrade?

Hello,

Do you need to have adjustable cam gears if you upgrade your cam shafts to 272?

you dont need to, but to get the most out of them you should. This would allow you to degree the cams and make the correct adjustments.

Not necessary if you buy quality cams from GSC, Kelford, HKS, Cosworth, etc. They won't need degreed unless you want to play with settings to alter the power curve.

Agreed, I ran them on gsc s2 and I could not get any real change in power. Only spend the money if you want to waste it. Just buy a nice set of cams gsc s2 is what I would go with.

They all need degreeing because they all have errors when reground.
Even the aftermarket cam gears have errors and the zero marks are never zero.

But if you don't spend the time measuring........you won't know.

Well the other variable is if the head or block have ever been resurfaced. I'm considering a cam upgrade and maybe trying my hand at degreeing them myself.

Here is a good resource for 4G63 cam tuning and degree procedure.

If you do the maths on the resurfacing of the head/ block it's about half a crank degree at max

In fact it's so small it's insignificant.
Most or the errors are in the aftermarket gears and in the cams.

As far as the video goes.......you don't need a degree wheel.......use the ring gear.
You don't need a solid lash adjuster , use a washer under the stock one.
Remove all the rocker arms apart from the one you're measuring.
