motor mount help needed

Ok, i finally wana fill my motor mounts this weekend. After some quick looking, Im not sure where to start! Refer to the attached image. Here are some intructions from my shop manual:

FRONT ROLL STOPPER AND CENTERMEMBER REMOVAL STEPS
1.ENGINE FRONT ROLL STOPPER BRACKET CONNECTING BOLT
2.ENGINE FRONT MOUNTING CUSHION STOPPER <2.4L ENGINE>
3.ENGINE FRONT ROLL STOPPER BRACKET
4.CENTERMEMBER
REAR ROLL STOPPER REMOVAL STEPS
5.ENGINE REAR ROLL STOPPER BRACKET CONNECTING BOLT
6.TRANSAXLE CASE REAR ROLL STOPPER BRACKET
7.ENGINE REAR ROLL STOPPER BRACKET

So, I assume #3 and #7 are the mounts. The "roll stopper brackets". So, where am I looking to find them. The pictures isnt too clear. does the crossmember SHOULD be right under the engine, running front to back, and attaching to the frame on both sides via the mounts. the engine mounts to the crossmember. right? where am I looking to find the mounts. I cant see em =( do i have to move the radiator?

thanks!

I thought the mounts were at the front and rear of the engine? That diagram is showing the things that attach to the engine at the front and rear of the car (by the radiator and below the intake manifold). Look at the front (passenger side) of the engine where those 3 bolts are and the rubber thing, isn't that the front mount? Then the rear mount is under the airbox (way down low). Maybe I'm misunderstanding.

Now I'm confused. However, I do know where the two mounts that the diagram refers to are at. There's one down low behind the radiator. The other one is at the same spot, just at the back of the engine compartment.

So there are 4 mounts for our engine then, right?

i think you only need to do front and back, since the engine don't (or shouldn't) rock from side to side

ok, so from what I understand, the front mount can pretty much jsut be taken out without much extra work. I suposed I can get to it /wout removing the radiator? anyone actually do it yet and able to help? can I get to it from under the car easier than from above?

and the front mount sorta rests on the top of the crossmember. so I can just take it out without worrying about the engine dropping on the floor, right =) and this is not the case in the back? since the back mount is kinda at a 90degree angle (or close), removing it WILL cause the engine to fall unless supported by a jack. am i correct? ill document this all for everyone when its done.

thx!

Go to ROAD/RACE Corner on this site.

https://www.evolutionm.net/features/...page=rrmcorner

"Wheel Hop Simple Fix."

It should help a little.

yes do one at a time. just do front and rear. if you do the two sides you might get unwanted vibrations. if the rear is anything like the one on my evo. have fun its a pain to get to. you might have more room than me.

wow, that was fast! thanks guys =) i'll give it a try tonight if i can get enough light. i dont plan on doing the sides and maybe not even the back. I'll just do the front first and see how uch a diff that makes. i may be happy with just that! ROCK: that helped =) i saw it a while back but lost it. my windoweld is waiting for me and it does kick a$s when a vendor helps people DIY stuff that is an alternative to their own products. really says something about you guys and your shop! +1 to RRM's karma

Okay, I think I'm clear now, but I want to be sure. By "front" you're talking about the front of the car, right? When I hear front motor mount, I think of the front of the engine, where the serp belt is at.

hey,

I did this mod to my front mount. It take 5 mins to take out. I 1st took the bolt out of the mount that attaches it to the motor, THen I took the bolts off that hold the cross member in place. Then you can take the cross member and the mount that is still on it to your workbench and take the mount off. BLK-MAGIC...give yourslef 24hrs without your car to let the stuff cure. I did it when it was about 30 deg. and it later fell out, (the urethane filling that is) The mount is fine but I'll have to redo it in the summer. I thought about doing the rear one, but its really hard to get at. Trust me, you'll know it when you see it. I only did the front and the improvment was AMAZING!!!! Let me know how it goes.

otter: yea, front of the car. like 'front bumper'.

mojambo: thx for the advice. i did get it out today. after some tinkering and trying to do it from the top of the car for 30 mins, i figured it was easier to juck it up and do it from underneath /w my breakerbar. too much crap in the way to move anything on the top =) then it only took 5-10 mins =)
after that, i found out that my windoweld tube had a small hole in the back and was totally cured =( got a new bottle and they are filled. I'll make a howto in the ralliart section, even tho the RRM instructions are pretty clear. i took a few more pics for ppl with the same questions that I had.

ALso, did u use the windoweld? i though u were gonna use the 2-part mix stuff?

I'll add this to my list of things to do when it warms up outside. Good to hear that it's so easy.

I used the 2 part urethane mix. It would have worked well but I did not let it cure long enough. I am going to do it again in the spring. I will get the urethane from www.deyemeracing.com The urethane they have has fibres layed into the mix so it becomes super stong and will not bust apart. This is what I will do in my 2nd attempt. The warmth really helps this mod to cure and I did it when it was freezing outside. Good job on the howto
