any idea why it was smoking? a lil slow but glad to see its running. anyways i was figuring sooner or later, revving a cold engine isnt too good for the motor. anyways good job despite everything else. just for clarification sake, u swapped a 2.4L to a 1.6L? how come?

It was 1.6L to 2.4L, who would swap the other way?

Assuming the header tubing is cast, the casting probably left some stuff on the metal, which smokes off when it gets hot.

FANTASTIC!!! Cheers Boys!
It doesn't sound too loud to me.....quite normal actually. I guess if you are used to a 1.6L, the 2.4L would sound a bit loud.
Get your fuel sensors hooked up and it should smooth out the idle.

We are about to take it on its first test drive around our private road.

Anyhow, we encountered a problem - the front right indicator no longer works, bulb is not blown - and the error code is B0018. Gonna have to figure that one out or just wire that indicator to the side repeater.

We had an error saying the throttle circuit was overheating for some reason = and throttle response got delayed.

Been for a test drive, didnt really push it at all. Here are my first observations:

1). Throttle is VERY sensitive - a little jab and it moves forward with great urgency.

2). You can drive the car around what I would call reasonable normally with light presses of the throttle. What I would have been doing at 4-5000rpm in the 1.6 I was doing less than 2000rpm.

3). The whole car feels really really good now - it no longer feels wimpy.

4). When I put my foot down in 3rd whilst doing 30mph - it rocketed forward and kept going with such poise and purpose - the car is glued to the road and feels awesome. This was of course 3rd gear acceleration from 30 to about 80.

5). 1st gear - only tried this once - and I cant rememebr it very well, because I was soon hitting the breaks on a road im used to accelerating hard down for a good 10 seconds... must have been about 5 seconds - everything moved by so quickly but smoothly...

6). Drove it all the way home - only issue with it is its loud.

Finally - I have a 1.5 MIVEC Mitsubishi Colt 2005. When I put the clutch fully down coming up to a stop, and put the breaks on, the idle in that very slightly goes unstable - revs up and down quickly. This was not noticeable in the colt as it had no performance exhaust.

In the lancer however, it does this same thing, which Ive never had in the 1.6 btw. Where when the clutch is pressed down then you break to stop, it revs quite erratically. Is this normal? Does it happen on yours? Problem is because of the exhaust it makes it sound to people like im reving the car at lights as people are trying to cross the road!

I got a P0134 code while driving for a while - anyone know what that is - is it the normal one for the RRM header and exhaust?

P0134 is no activity detected from O2 sensor. You could have a bad sensor, or the signal isn't getting to the ECU. That stopping thing isn't normal. The two things are probably related.

Haha, Awesome job man! I love the rule "If it was going to blow up, it would have blown up already." A rule to live by. Congrats on the start up.

The front oxy sensor was one I re-used from my other engine. I'd really like to get rid of that revving when I stop with the clutch down though.

Any other ideas what could cause that really bad idle whilst stopping with the clutch down? Thanks!

Some of it is that the ECU needs more run time to learn the engine. Some of it is probably your O2 sensor, since that's what the ECU mostly uses to learn.

Did you get the other sensors wired in? Fuel temp/level/pressure, etc..?

Got fuel temp, level wired in. I'll wire in fuel pressure asap and see how that helps. Soon as I get insurance sorted im off to get the High Flow cat welded in. I hope that will tone down the noise, or else I'll never be able to accelerate fast!

I've ordered a replacement universal oxy sensor to see if that one works better.

I forgot to tell you about the final work we did before starting the engine.

We had terrible trouble trying to get the inner shaft into the transaxle. It just would not go. We spent a hole day trying to get it in there. In the end we put it in the freezer overnight, then we heated the transaxle splines with a hairdrier, positioned the now frozen and contracted inner-shaft into the splines as far as it would go in, then put a block of wood between the end of that and the side of the car - and wacked it with a big hammer - and it went in.

Front camber bolts were easy, as was replacing the rear one we broke. We also made sure the wheels had the correct and equal camber.

Heres a pic of the frozen inner shaft

I noticed at the moment the Evaporative Ventilation Solenoid is not connected to C-124 # 6 yet. I need to wire that up. Would this cause unstable idle if the Evap ventilation solenoid wasnt working? Code P0446 and P0443.

My understanding is that this valve controls the release of fuel vapour into the intake manifold, and with it not working, it is allowing fuel vapour into the intake at idle, which would cause the unstable idle.
