Other than a slight hp decrease there isn't anything else wrong with the bypass.

It's not even noticable. I've run my car with and without the bypass and I can't tell the difference.

it's a few hp and lb/ft on the dyno with the bypass on

the biggest problem is that the flaps on the bypass sometimes lets air out, therefore negating the cold air effect and also creates turblence

it's like having a hole in your straw and trying to suck your soda

I might be wrong but isn't turbulance a good thing? promotes better mixing of the air and fuel I thought.

Turbulence before the combustion chambers is not good, it slows the intake air down. The only place you want turbulence in the whole airflow path is INSIDE the cylinders when the fuel is mixing with the air. A leak in the intake or exaust will cause turbulence which slows the air down.
