Under servere load you can bet RA pulls timing when using lower octane fuel. So.... Maybe it is not in your head!

Search around the forums, or google, and read about octane. Octane is what determines the flashpoint of gasoline. High compression engines, and high performance engines (such as forced induction engines) need a fuel with a higher flashpoint. This allows them to run with advanced timing, thus able to compress the a/f mix more before igniting it with the spark plug. With a lower octane fuel, you'd run the risk of detonation, which is when the a/f mix ignites before the spark plug tells it to.

The reason there are so many different types of gas (87, 89, 91, 93, 100, 116) is due to both cost and performance demand. 87 octane is the least expensive to produce, and is the best octane rating for most cars, as most cars come with a compression level in the same range. Some cars would probably run just fine on something like 85 octane, but not enough of them to make it worth producing it. Mathematically, someone figured out that 87 octane is the lowest that it's financially responsible to produce. Everything above that is made for engines that actually have a need for it.

So we can conclude that since high octane permits the a/f mix to be more compressed due to the higher flashpoint and ignited when the spark plug tells ,the explosion per cilinder will be more stronger producing more power ,
right? Please understand that if i dont understand this or cannot express my self clearly is because english its not my main language

you are correct!!!!!! on a side note, i think the RA could use higher compression. i bet if we had 11:1 like an rsx-s our cars would make even more power with the piggy!

I actually know of at least 3 other people who use 87 octane with their piggyback. They all know that this isnt a mod that heavily changes anything, (for lack of a better word). None of us have any issues. Heck, I know of a guy with an evo and he uses 87. Wow we're a buncha penny pinchers!

Yeah it can be done... however timing gets pulled and power drops considerably. Only way to use 87 without this happening is by adding an injections system. (alky or meth)
