Cylinder Head project !!!
Sorry if this is completely stupid but did you put it all together and then have it cryogenically treated, or was it all still in pieces....? And did they still only charge you $100.00 for the whole treatment?
Cryo is an optional step I did it because I wanted EXTRA wear resistance, I need the engine to last
Alright, from the very top, just to keep this all straight in my head as well as summarize for people tuning in late. Also, I've added some questions here and there.
Here's a list I've created out of a few of the lists you've done, and some questions that I wasn't able to answer on my own. Sorry if the answer is right in front of my face and I missed it. Always nice to recap though, no?
Cylinder head (car-part.com): $250.00
Cylinder head porting + cleanup: $200.00
Cylinder head Mill & 3-angle valve job: $200.00
Bronze Valve guides (www.paeco.com: $128.00
Valve stem seals: Still waiting for all that to get sorted out....? If I read correctly, the 4g64 stems seals you purchased will not work. Will the bronze valve guides still work?
Ceramic Coatings and lubricants: $90.00
Perfect Power SMT-6: $$$$ ???? (any cheap retailers you may suggest?)
Intake Manifold: $125.00
Intake Manifold porting $60.00
OEM head gasket and IM gasket: $65.00
Camshaft regrind and strength treatment: $200.00 quoted
Evo Fuel Rail: $$$ ????
WRX Blue Injectors: $$$ ????
EGR blockoff plate: Should we cross reference the EGR delete thread? I was still a little confused by the resolution there.
Cryogenics: $100.00~
So, grand total without the cost of the SMT-6, Evo fuel rail and injectors thus far is:
$1418.00
My Math is horrible so I added it up a few times and thats what I keep finding. *THIS IS WITHOUT THE COST OF THE PIGGYBACK!!!!!!!!!*
All things considered, thats a LOT of work done at a fraction of what it would cost to just have it all done for you. Please let me know if there is something that I have overlooked and I'll be sure to add it to the list.
Additional questions:
In previous posts you have mentioned a ported TB, but haven't yet talked about what your plans specifically were.... Is that one of the things you'd prefer to keep to yourself? I may just not understand the process of a ported TB but my assumption is that you are enlarging the plenum chamber which is what distributes air to the runners on the IM...is that right? If so, how are you doing this, if you don't mind me asking? Also, whats up with the pistons you were having made to change compression, and did you cryogenically treat the rods as well? Lastly (I really hope this doesn't sound too stupid but here goes): whats the guarantee that the ceramic coating won't just eventually flake off? I realize its been baked on there, but is it even possible for it break up under the pressure being generated in the comb. chamber? Does it withstand far more heat than what it would be exposed to in the comb chamber or is just basically that it becomes chemically fused to the cyl head after baking it?
Migue, thanks again.

Ok I will respond everything from the very begginning ...
Valve seals : I am still waiting on those I will probably use the OEM
Valve bronze guides are CUSTOM made from PAECO but I just called them and they said they dont have a pattern so whatever you do call them and send them one of yours OEM guides .....
Perfect Power SMT-6: $$$$ ???? (any cheap retailers you may suggest?)EBAY 280.00
Evo Fuel Rail: 30.00 EVO M
WRX Blue Injectors: 90.00 EVO M from blacksheep
EGR blockoff plate: Should we cross reference the EGR delete thread? I was still a little confused by the resolution there. 8 bucks from EBAY search for EVO EGR plate
And also I wanted to say that this cyl head has by far better components than the RRM head and also a lot of safe features such as better lubrication due to the dry film lubricants... ALSO I WANTED TO CLEAR HERE that the CERAMICS COATINGS where added to increase fuel efficiency in order to get more from the fuel and protect the head from HEAT ... The coatings are made to last I am being honest after I coated the valves I tried to take the coating with a knife just to see if it will come off and trust me IT WONT , if applied following the directions it will last for the engine life ... EVOS have ceramics integrated in almost all the components...
The pistons are gonna be sent from the manufacturer in three weeks , that's an additional thing to add but I will install them in conjunction with other stuff which I will not post here because there are a bunch of people trying to do what I am doing and I don;t want them to build the lower end to save them of further trouble.... because I will obviously not have the trouble of explaining how to do the lower end Its just too hard for me.....
The throttle body is supposed to arrive this friday and I have to pick it up and send another Intake Manifold I had to D@N.... I will try to port it and if I get serious gains I will do a thread about it
REMEMBER THIS IS A CYL HEAD PROJECT so everything such as INJECTORS PIGGY THROTTLE BODY LOWER END AND OTHER MODS SHOULD BE DISCUSSED IN ANOTHER THREAD.... LETS CONCENTRATE IN THE CYL HEAD ONLY.....

Another question:
Did you use the springs that came with the cylinder head you purchased, and then had those treated, or are these brand new springs that you treated? If I read correctly you are just using the springs that came with the head. Are there any benefits to going with new springs and then treating them vs treating the springs that just came with the head?

HEADGASKET
I didn;t see the need for a better headgasket in my application but in fact I did researched and got a quote and I will attach the email here
YOu can get a multilayer COMPOSITE headgasket which I know for sure NO ONE will sell it to you for 110ish depending on your desired thickness.. you will need to send one OEM headgasket to this manufacturer and the time for availability its stated in the word quotation attached...
06-1094 Vega.doc
I hope this will help you TURBO guys a lot , remember to leave the pattern for future purchases (SHARE),I do plan on getting the ARP head studs can someone verify that they will work with the RA
