Differential compatibility?

I was looking at differential options for the RA and all I can find is the RRM-distributed Quaife LSD. Its probably the best bet, but I'm not done digging yet Our stock transmission is an F5M42-2-F6ND. All the F5M42 variants use the same casing and are very similar, maybe identical. Most changes between the variants seem to be gear ratios. The differential is housed in the casing and connects to the drive shafts. So if the trans is the basically the same, the next major variable for differential compatibility is the drive shafts. If they are also the same, we have a good candidate for swap compatibility. The holy grail would be an car with a stock LSD in a F5M42.

However, as far as I know, our driveshafts are unique to the ralliart. They are a split-shaft, which none of the DSMs, mirages, galants, etc used to my very limited knowledge. But that doesn't mean that the interface of the shaft to the differential is not the same. The part numbers wont match up, but they might actually fit. I'd be surprised if they didn't. Thats what I need some help figuring out.

I know the 2000 and 2001 2.4L FWD Eclipses used a F5M42. The 1997-2001 1.8L Mirages also used them. And it was in the Dodge Stratus ST and SXT. It think it might also be in some galants, sebrings.

As for the Quaife LSD that we might be able to use (and maybe that RRM is offering), I think it may be Quaife model number 76.306.180. Its marketed for the 2000-2005 FWD Eclipse, 99-04 Galant, and 01-04 Stratus. If we can verify shaft computability with any of those, then the only other minor concern i can think of speedo gear and bearing computability. I'd be REALLY surprised if thats a problem.

If we are lucky, this might open us up to using a Cusco clutch-type LSD. They list some for the JDM 87-92 galant (the jap translation actually says 'garant' lol!), 91-95 lancer, and 87-96 mirage. remember, those are all jdm year/models. ours will be a bit different.

err... i typod the model number (there is no 76.306.108). I meant 76.309.108, which is what you posted in the other thread. nice cusco doesn't list any eclipse applications. do they even have an eclipse in japan?

has mitsu ever released a fwd car with a limited slip differential?

I think the FTO had an optional LSD in Japan. FTO was made between 1994 - 2000.

try searching cyclone. It's hard to beleive that with all the models of JDM Eclipses/Cyclones, there wasn't a FWD LSD in one of them.

resurrection - OEM LSD for F5M42 tranny

Can someone give an educated guess if this genuine Mitsu LSD fits our RA's? Looks like it to me. If so, how do I get a p/n to see if it is available for a decent price (under $1k).

rather than ASA, which is Mitsubishi motors north America (+PR, guam), get a copy of CAPS (mitsubishilinks.com) and they have other markets like JDM and stuff, so you can pull up many more models than ASA...My friend Ghislain has a copy with some old *** JDM stuff in the database...OEM LSD would be sweet to say the least.
