X3 Cold Air Intake
Anyone given these a try yet. http://www.tunersdepot.com/Air%20Int...(MT)-4386.html
The bends look right. Just wondering in anyone has tried to fit one. If they work you can't beat the price for $70 and just put a better filter on the end.

lol, the bends look close, but the moutning pins (?) i guess would be the word, are in the wrong place. they need to be down farther, unless you're just planning on zi-tying it to something to hold it from vibrating off.
oh, and i bought one on ebay that is similar to that for like 60 bucks the other day. and it is identical to the AEM one my friend bought, minus the filter, but i replaced it for like 13 bucks or something.

So did you install the ebay one yet? I emailed Tuner Depot and they said it was a direct fit for the ralliart. I don't really trust them though but if the ebay one works then that would be great news. An intake is just a tube of metal. As long as the MAF adaptor is correct and in mounts up okay then I am sold. If you have time shoot a link to the ebay one you bought for others to see.
I think the only thing to check is the diameter of the pipe where the MAF mounts. Ideally, you want this diameter to be the same as the stock pipe there which is about 2.5". The pipe expands to 3" diameter where it attaches to the engine. Maybe if someone on the forum knows for sure, can they comment if 3" all the way along the pipe will confuse the MAF and bugger up performance?

yea, the stock size is 2.5" at the MAF and widens to 3" at the engine attachment. the one i got was full 3" and i am getting a CEL because of it, but i'm too busy recently to mess with it, and i had it checked out at the dealer and they said that it is just throwing the code because "It doesn't like not having the original intake" and it won't hurt anything if i leave it.
i'll look and see if i cant find a link to the one i got, and the 2.5" equivalent from the same company, i think i remember seeing both.

I've just checked around and some intakes, like Weapon-R for example, have a 2.5" diameter section where the MAF plugs in and then it expands to 3" afterwards, like the stock system.
yeah the ebay one will cause you to throw a code. i had it, kinda still do, its all choped up into a short ram with the stock tup behind it, now i only ocassionally get a code. im going to replace the intake later anyway

Good info. Thanks guys. I am in the process of testing a cheap way to get cold air into the system. I have a spectre flexible intake pipe running from the stock air box hold down to the front bumper. So far it seems to be pulling cooler air. I'll let people know how it works out. If anything for those who don't want to spend the $200 on an intake they should be able to do this for about $35 and get a little more noise and cooler air entering the engine while keeping the stock air box. Mind you I have a K&N drop in in the stock box so that might help.
