Rethinking my SRI

Over the past few weeks I've been thinking about the RRM intake that I have and am considering swapping it out for a different one.

As seen here

the intake uses the stock elbow. I'm starting to believe that that could actually be robbing me of power since the ridges in the elbow where it bends i feel like are disrupting airflow creating little pockets. This is all theoretical of course but I had alot of time to think about this. Im thinking about switching to a full piping SRI like AEM, Injen, or even Fujita to hopefully not restrict anymore airflow.

Another thought I was having was about the filter placement being next to the engine and all but I believe all the other intakes have it placed in the same area unless there are some that keep the filter by the strut tower which I'm unaware of.

What are you thoughts on this? Anyone have any of these intakes and can chime in?

This part seems reasonable.

That thing has gotta be sucking in a lot of hot air. Heck, on the evo's with an open element filter that is right behind the headlight and near the radiator, still get a 10 degree drop in intake temperature if we just slap the stock snorkel back on. And thats with the snorkel just somewhat directing the air towards the filter (ie. no enclosure to ensure all the air from the snorkel goes to the filter). Let me find a pic to show you what I'm talking about.

Edit: take a look here.https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ed-tuning.html

I know the scoop ain't pretty, but it helps and its free. You should find a way to utilize your stock one...

The install for AEM SRI, has the snorkle in place. It makes sense, especially after seeing the temp. from the thread above.

I have one. It is for a ES though. The seller left out the ES in his for sale thread. I know the airbox doesn't fit, but the snorkle might. I will look when I get home.

May make an even bigger difference for rakiri because his filter is so far back in the engine bay.

So what you guys think? Should I just get a custom elbow tube made and a snorkle and call it a day?

Check this place out.

Not necessarily saying to buy from here, but look at the of the bends and parts to get an idea of what you can make. Then shop around to find it cheaper if possible.

I like silicone a lot more than hard pipes, pretty good insulators against heat.

Looks like you can replace your ribbed tube with a 90 degree bend and possibly find one that has some extra length on one of the sides so it can be one piece.

INJEN cold air intake for the win. it comes as a cold air intake, but in 10 minutes you can convert it to a short ram., and it replaces the rubber ridged elbow peice your talking about. IF its nice out, CAI it up. But when the tsunami comes and are afraid of rain or something, convert it back to short ram.

I can also so, without a doubt in my mind, this is hands down the best sounding intake i've heard on any 4-6 cyl car. NASTY. low rpms sounds like a bong rip. high rpms sounds like a lion.

i bought the AEM kit, and it has an aesthetic appeal to it...i've been considering a heat shield but i would have one made or buy one, i'm an advocate of DIY but not if it looks ghetto...i knew a guy who made an intake with pringles tubes, it was ghetto as fack, lol

the only thing is the AEM pipe is quite narrow, the coupler that connects to the throttle body reduces to the pipe, i have not actually measured, and i'm not sure what the affect of a small diamter intake would be. sounds awesome, didn't really notice a dramatic increase in power, but i keep the snorkel on for the same reason, the filter is very close to the engine, but not as close as the RRM thing.
