fuel pump issues

first off i have a 05 ra 5spd with a sri. so the problem is that when i go to start her sometimes she just cranks and will not start and i have had this issue in the past. with dumb luck i found out that if you thump the fuel pump it will start right up. then there is other times that i will have to pull the whole assembly and clean it. then i will not have any problem for several weeks. i have no idea what it could be. i get gas at the same place every time. i have not had any problems with any of the other cars when i get gas there. if any one can give me any kind of insight i would be very thankfull.

replace pump and filter? check relays...

if you're that sure it's a fuel pump problem, then just replace it...

ok so after tearing the pump all the way apart and pulling the pump out of the white assembly i took a air house to the white housing where the fuel line connects and blew it out and whole s-load of black crap came out of the bottom. then i realize that my tank is full of crap. so the plan is to drain the tank and flush it. maybe that will fix the problem. along with a new fuel filter good thing i was about to fill up i only got right above 1/4 tank.

i would think that is it just debris from getting crap gas in the beginning. and on the free tools that would only happen in the military. i am draining the rest of the gas tonight when i get home from work. i am going to try and filter it through a cheese cloth. i will post some pictures of it tonight when i am finished.

LOL! that's exactly what i was talking about...are you in military aviation, or have you heard some true stories? my favorite is a 3/8"x12" drill bit...

Let us know how it goes...what did the fuel filter look like?

ok i am sorry that there is no pictures . but the problem of the fuel pump was that i had about 5 cups water and and spot on the cheese cloth about 2.5 inches around. so i emptied the whole tank and stained all of it. now it runs like a champ.

When the car was running did u have any idling issues? Also im having a problem that almost everytime i open the gas tank my car wont start so im think its the fuel pump or mabey a dirty filter. But for the first time the other day i revd it up to 3k in neutral let it go and she stalled. Wondering where the fuel pump so i can take a look at it and if u have any idea if im in the right direction

i had no idling issues . my problem was just on the start up. it would just start sometimes and not the other times. the fuel pump is right under the the back seat. there is a access pannel remove that and the pump is right there. make sure when pull the pump that the car has been off for a while so the system can depressurize. if not when you disconnect the fuel line you will spray gas all over inside your car. check the strainer on the bottom of pump assembly. i also took a air line to the out let feed and blew all of the gunk out when i took the pump assembly apart. i hope that helps you a bit.
