TPS Problemo

I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to my car (that will change) and this forum since its my first time.

So I have a 2004 Ralliart, When the engine light came on, I took it to Auto Zone to find out it was a faulty TPS (Throttle Position Sensor).

So, I took it to a mechanic a friend told me about ,and he told me if the Car was wired or not. Basically in order to replace a new TPS, I need to know if I can just replace a new one without any issue, or do I need to restart the car electronically in order to replace the new TPS.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

I had the same issue before, turns out all I needed to do was reset the tps and it seemed to work, no CEL. Haven't had that code pop up again.

Thanks for the one and only reply

Did you do this at the Mitsubishi dealership or some mechanic you know, cause the one I went told me that he doesn't have the tools to reset it electronically.

i did it myself. just un-clipped the TPS, disconnected the battery, let it sit for about a minute, the connected battery and the TPS and everything worked.

Thanks a lot for the advice, will definitely do this, Just one last thing I am having trouble finding this TPS (ive been looking for the image online, and im getting several different parts I can't come to definitive conclusion, even the guy at autozone aint even sure.

Is it this?

Or is the TPS located beside the beginning part of the intake tube?

Thanks man!

I do believe it is the sensor and battery just needs to be disconnected ,
but can you help and point out where the sensor is located in the engine (from the images above). I don't want to start disconnecting different sensors and cause further problems

ah ok gotcha

edit: actually the image you are referring to is the accelerator pedal sensor (correct me if im wrong),

I found it from this reference, as otter (admin) claims it https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/04...look-pics.html

The TPS is actually somewhere else

The Code I am getting is P2138 from autozone
