It really depends on how bad it is. Could be $300, could be $800...I do know that a shop will probably charge north of $1,000 for just bearing and seals, and I've yet to see a junkyard tranny go for less than $600 that wasn't broken in some way, or had reasonable mileage. You can order oem parts individually, and there are also aftermarket rebuild kits that go for around $500-600 that include all new synchros as well(Google "F5M42 rebuild kit"). Basically if the gears are not damaged you can expect to pay about $600 for a full overhaul, but replacing synchros gets a bit more in-depth, and often not all need to be replaced, were you ever having difficulty getting into any gears?

you downshift to 1st? I guess I have, but at like maybe 5k/m and it's very rare, never had difficulty synchronizing... 1st gear synchronizer is on the output shaft, also a dual synchro, so i would doubt that the blown input shaft bearing would cause that, you might need a new synchro, or the clutch could be dragging...anyway, you can measure the gaps on the synchros when it's apart and see which ones are close, worn, still good, etc.

you may have some gear wear as well due to the input shaft bearing...unless it was so bad that it failed catastrophically...which would be weird that whoever installed the clutch didn't notice it...

also out of curiosity, and i know it's hard to explain, but what did it sound like?

do the shafts still rotate freely?

if so, bearings and seals should be all you need unless there are synchros that need to be replaced...I have a video how-to on the disassembly of this gearbox, in the how-to section.

I get most of my OEM parts from JNZ Tuning, if you need a parts list, I can compile one for you...alternatively you can google "F5M42 rebuild kit" you can get kits with just bearings and seals, or you can get kits with synchros...I've never used them, but I'm sure they're ok.
