Gas Tank

I'm a new Ralliart owner with a question. Since the gas tank on the Ralliart is kinda small compared to the last car I owned, is there a way to switch in a bigger tank? I was thinking about switching a tank from a Galant. It has the same MIVEC engine so I would guess that the parts for pump and gas gauge would be the same. The Galant is suposed to be 17.7 gallons verses the Lancers 13.2 gallons. That's another solid 100 miles worth of travel between fill ups.

I don't think anyone has ever tried to switch tanks but I don't think a Galant tank will work. Factory tanks are made to fit the car. It would be rare to find a tank from an other car that would fit unless it was another lancer.

the EVO has a 14 gal tank. I don't know if it will fit but I don't think it will be worth the effort for .8 gal more.

Yeah, its not worth the time or the effort if you ask me. But i can understand, the gas tank is the biggest PITA with our cars. Welcome to the forums.

The money you could spend swapping tanks could be used to improve fuel economy enough for the extra 100 miles.

Lighter weight rims, lighter clutch, advance of ignition and timing for 91+ octane, a complete swap to synthetic lubrication, less restrictive exhaust, less restrictive intake, put your car up on blocks and drive a little like that, ect...

Yea i've never see someone switch a tank unless it's from the same model car, and like mitsu and the others said it's not worth shelling out the cash for it. You can always do what Mitsu said with the rims and stuff..

I would have to say niether tank would fit as our trunk designs (sportback) are different of those on any Mitsu sedan or the Evo, we have a flat trunk line along the rear, the sedan is tapered as they have a deeper trunk than we do, don't think the tanks will fit, but i could be wrong.
