Now this is still my advise, go get an WRX, that's something worth buying. if not, go get yourself a CivicSI or Scion. No point in wasting money in 2.5i nor RalliArt.
warning: I ain't saying Ralliart is not a good car. On a price to power, aftermarket parts, mod-ablility, etc point of view.

And for the records, Scion = no.

You know, I don't understand the bashing on the Ralliart anyways. For a under 20k econo-sport, it's a hell of a nice car.
I've tried them all... SRT-4 and WRX (Nice, but over 20k) SE-R Spec V (fun ride, and what I expected to buy being a Sentra owner for almost 10 years and 190,000 miles, but just tiny inside) Scion (OVERRATED... let's face it, the tC stands for Toyota Corolla!) Civic (does the world really need another Civic on the road?) ect... and the Ralliart was simply the best feeling car (in it's class) right out of the box... it's got some power, the build quality is simply awesome, it has the best seats and a spacious interior (probably what got me right there) and happens to be (IMO) way better looking... maybe just cause it's got that Evo style going.

Yup, some of them are right there with the best. Who cares about reading the thread when you can just type in "buy an EVO" or "buy a WRX" and be done with it, right? Afterall, no car in the world is worthy of the road it rides on if it's not an EVO or has not been approved by an EVO owner himself... preferably an MR owner.

AznX TL, I'm quite sure that your choice will be very clear once you've driven the two cars... let us know. Either way, they are good cars for the money... but of course, I finally chose the RA, so I'm kinda biased nowadays.

And since you seem like an okay guy, it will be nice to have you on EvoM if you ever decide to get the RA.

I own a 04 RA and a 05 Impreza .Here in upstate N.Y. in the summer I drive the RA .The roads are very curvey and fun to drive ,RA handles better and is a little bit more snappier. In the winter I drive the Impreza . It's the only way to go.AWD. RA and snow don't mix. The Impreza rides much smoother. They both get about the sxme gas mileage.

I live in Quebec and my RA handles the snow and ice just fine... tires maybe? I got a set of Pirelli Winter Carving and I couldn't be more satisfied. The tire has the same construction as the summer tire (so great sidewall flex resistance) but with a really good snow thread.
Of course AWD would be a plus... but I have no problems with the RA though (and we do get a lot more snow than down in NY state)...

Wow, this guy definitely is a good one to ask.
MUNSFV85, if you had to get rid of one, which would you keep? And tell us with or without snow.

I would probley keep the Impreza . Because I feel it is a better all rounded car .The only reason I bought the RA is because of the price. It was a left over. This is my project car. A 3yr project. You name it, it will have it.

Wait for the 06 civic si. It's got the front diff, plus that wonderful vtec from the rsx-s. Plus looks a lot better than both of those cars. A honda will be way more reliable than the mitsu, or the awd subie.

Their price is about the same the Ralliart is $18,999msrp and the impreza is $18,295msrp
Their hp is also very close the Impreza with 173hp and the ralliart with 162hp
Thier engine size is also almost the same with the impreza having a 2.5L and the ralliart with the 2.4L.
The impreza has the slight advantage also because it has awd too
i really want a ralliart but the impreza is kinda changing my mind and also my dad wants me to get a suby because he has owned 3 of them in the past

This is when using the search feature is good since I was about to start the same topic.
I've had my 2004 ES since January 2004. I like it for the most part, it's a decent looking car, cheap, and gets good milage. But now I'm thinking about upgrading. Sure I could spend thousands on engine, suspension and body upgrades like a kit and rims. Or I could save that money for a good downpayment on a new 2006 car with more power.
I still can't afford the big boys like a STi or Evo so I'm looking at either the RA or 2.5i. Trying to compare them side by side...
2006 Ralliart: MSRP $18,999 / 2006 Impreza 2.5i: MSRP $18,295
2.4 MIVEC SOHC inline-4 / 2.5 SOHC 16v boxer
162HP@5,750RPM / 173HP@6,000RPM
Front wheel drive / All wheel drive
So at first glace the 2.5i is a better car at a slightly cheaper price. A friend of mine says Subaru all the way. But like many of us here, we bought our cars with the intent to mod them. Unfortunately the 04 ES doesn't have very many mods with RRM the only company I know that supports the Lancers. Although I imagine most mods for the Impreza are for the WRX and STi. There's the WRX TR that has the same 230 horsepower turbo engine, about $500 less and without the spoiler and fog lights.
The only big name mods like Injen and GReddy I've found for the 2.5i is for the RS '98-'01. At least if I could swing a WRX I think there would be far more choices for aftermarket mods.
