As i have been reading it seems that no one makes a strut for lowered RA's but i am curious about something. Wouldnt struts made for other lowered cars work on our cars. Just like shocks, most struts are not made for one and only one vehicle. Usually parts like this are somewhat generic so that one part will fit many applications. If the OEM struts are used on any other car than the ralliart then we might be able to use a shortened strut for these other applications. Has anyone checked with their autoparts store to see if these struts go on any other imports.

 

it has nothing to do with a shortened strut. You need a stock fitting strut with better dampening capabilities to handle the stiffer spring which is just a tad shorter than the stock spring. With alot of digging and test fitting you might find some shocks that physically fit the car, but this only accomplishes that..a fit. SHocks dampening levels are different for most cars a mix and match combination could be real crappy and provide a dangerous off balance setup. Parts such as shocks have to be specific for the car you have. my .10 cents

 

Correct me if im wrong, but i was under the impression that struts where basically the same thing as shocks. If this is true then i dont see how they couldnt be interchangible. I know that when you lower or raise a truck, the only determining factor on which shocks you use is the length.

 

Struts are not the same at shocks, struts are far more advanced than shocks. They do make struts for our cars, Tein makes them but you have to buy the lowering springs too with them.

 

do you have a part number for the struts from tein? Depending on how much they charge for them it might be cheaper or better just to get the coilovers.

 

uhh, about 800 bucks LOL. The ones that fit the oz are the ones that fit the ra too. They are full coilovers.

 

Oddly enough, coilovers are only slightly more expensive than replacing all 4 struts.

 

I think he meant the part number to order only the replacement struts. One would assume that if you bought Tein coilovers and one of the struts were damaged, you'd have to be able to buy a replacement part...

But NonEvo, I guess the struts are probably dependent on the rest of the coilover assembly and cannot be mounted on the car as is...

You have to get full coilovers or nothing... Struts are vehicle specific and are valved to work with the weight of the vehicle... you might find some that fit but they might not work right...
