Tougher choice than it should be, RA vs MR

But as far as your MR vs. RA... Like everyone else said its really up to you... If you were to Turbo/ SC the RA... that would be awesome... throw on an LSD and some good tires and there ya go... and that would only be a little chunk of that money...
The MR would be really nice... as far as street credit and stuff but look towards the future. Your insurance goes up and also there goes $35k+ out the window of course yeah the car is yours now... the e9 hasn't been out long... and i have already heard of someone having issues with the car not responding and him crashing into a light pole, luckily he wasn't going fast(if i remember correctly only like 30mph)... i know thats only 1 out of who knows how many e9's have been sold... but still who's to say it won't happen to others or already hasn't happened... I haven't driven an evo so i can't sit here and say keep the RA cuz its better because stock... its obviously not even close...
but if i had that kind of money to put towards another car or into my current car... i would mod the hell out of the RA. not sure if you race or like to show... or maybe neither... it all comes down to you... and whats plans you have for the future... modding or whatever elses floats your boat..
good luck in whatever decision you make

wow way to bash my opinion which is an intelligent one. if you look at the specs of a ralliart motor to the evo motor, ralliart has more potential of making bigger hp then the evos. im sorry theres no replacement for displacement.
turbo you say...
oh yeah...turbo the ralliart, throw in lower compression pistons in it. get lsd. save 20 grand,......bbyyyyeeee evo.......

Dude, just buy the MR and call it a day.
RA owners saying "keep the ra", evo owners saying "buy the MR", but at the end of the day you could careless what people behind a keyboard and monitor tell you, you have to think about your own opinion. So I advise you to use your own opinion and buy what you feel best.

think of it this way, you could be the big brother, aka ralliart, or the little brother on steroids, aka EVO.
jkjk
Im gonna agree with Aritmeitc, its your own opinion, also, if you havent, go drive an evo. it will amaze you.

I would say first off, make sure you drive the EVO. You will freak out!! That car is hella fun to drive. I'm pretty sure you would be leaning towards the EVO, but I think that's a good choice. A lot of it also depends on your age. If you're like me, 19 yrs. old, then I would love to get an EVO. I have the rest of my life to save up for houses, garages, and all that. If you're 30, married, kids, then the RA might be a better choice. Of course, there are exceptions to this, but hopefully you get what I'm saying.
Good luck on your choice.

I'll make this short and thought provoking. I'm not going to debate between engines and which is better.
However, I will ask the thread starter this. What is your purpose for this car? JUST a daily driver for fun? Show's? Track/Auto cross? How much do you want to put into the Evo IF you buy it?
Answer these questions and your answer will be a little clearer. For example...if your going to take it to the track for racing then find out if there are any HP limitations or if the class your in matters as to your number of drive wheels.
If your doing show's then stay with the RRM tricked RA (turbo, bodykit, stereo...) and you'll be different and still way under your budget.
Either way...you get the idea. People here need to realize theres WAY more to buying a car then just HP numbers and how much you can squeeze out of an engine.

Also keep in mind that unless you have supplemental isurance, in case of an accident the turbo will not be covered.
You'll also need better rims/tires, which also aren't covered under "stock" insurance coverage.

Good point. BUT, I think if the dude has the money to buy a EVO OUTRIGHT CASH he's obviously not hurting for cash. So an extra 30-40/mo on insurance wouldn't be an issue....FOR HIM.
If it's $30-40/mo, that $400-$500 per year extra in insurance. Turbo + install cost ~$5k, new rims/tires (ROCK's lighting up his 17x7s with ease) will be another $2k. So after the first year it might be $7,500 that he's invested into the RA.
Cheaper than buying an Evo outright, but he won't have insurance, the power will be hard to put down, etc etc.
Very many things to consider.

Daddymac nailed it with his reply #40 above that I'm quoting here for emphasis.
What you want out of your car is what matters in this decision. I owned an Evo VIII. I traded it in for a Ralliart. I am just as happy when I hit the backroads now with my RA as I was with the Evo. However, I am much happier with the RA overall, for these reasons:
There are far less cars with the RA that I can beat in a straight line than with the Evo (though you're talking about a different situation because you're consiering turboing your RA). However, don't think for a second that there aren't quite a number of stock-looking American V8 cars out there that will eat a stock Evo for breakfast with mere bolt-ons. If you think you're going to blow everybody away with an Evo without getting right back into the money-mod race, you're mistaken.
The Evo has absolutely incredible handling. However, to really feel it you need to be at speed. I've run the exact same twisty forest routes with my RA that I used to with the Evo, and I observed very comparable speeds through technical sections. Both cars exhibit push and require trail braking. Where the Evo shines is on the exits (especially uphill
) and of course anywhere you have a straight or high-speed section.
The toughest thing about this decision is that you can drive your Evo to a dealer to test drive an Evo and be instantly sold, with not the slightest bit of doubt remaining. So you spend a wad and buy the Evo. Six months later you get a rare chance to test-drive a lowered turbo RA with good tires and the standard rear suspension upgrades, and after parking it, with wide eyes and white knuckles, you start to question your decision.
Either way, you're going to end up with a fast car that commands great respect.

- More comfortable seats for daily driving, much more comfortable for my passenger(s)
- Far more comfortable ride. On the way home with the Evo from the dealer is when I first started to regret its purchase.
- Easier on gas, and cheaper gas at that
- Where I live, Evos are not uncommon. In contrast, it is extremely rare to see a Ralliart.
- I can use the e-brake at will
- Half the cost (leaving money for things like replacement tires & clutches, and heck, maybe even some mods)
- Less than 2/3rds the insurance
- No bad attention from cops
- No oversized wing that's important to keep on for stability at speed

oh , please !! Nez get off the evo high horse !!! Sad you live in milwaukee here in P.R you would get your *** handed to you in your great evo by even a damn kia. Fact is the RA is a great car , how can i compare? my best friend has an evo and i drive it from time to time. And sorry to burst your bubble but even an SRT-4 can beat an evo on the 1/4 mile. Fact is the evo is great but its not the best , i've seen lots of cars beat the mighty evo here in PR.

We drive what we feel comfortable with. I could've bought an evo , i didn't cause my wife said NO (jk), I didn't cause im married with a kid and i have other things to worry about. So if ralliartjapracr sold his cause he wanted to be different theres nothing wrong with that.
