If you had $10k to spend on your Ralliart (and wanted to)
If you had $10k to spend on your Ralliart (and wanted to)
Hello!
I am looking at getting a loan and modifying the car extensively within the next 6 to 10 months.
Disclaimer:
I don't want to hear what I could do instead with the car like trading it in or buying something else... I am going to do this and I am just looking for some outside input to help me pick some parts
If you think I am being stupid or want to rant/flame then do it in a PM to me please. Thanks!
Oh... I would like to order as much as I can from one place so that hopefully I can get some kind of discount, not a big deal if I buy from several places though. I've not added it up and I know that this added up at full price is probably more than $10k but I'd certainly be working some discounts out as I have some local connections.
Introduction
I am going to start by listing what I am looking at (some of it is fairly vague, I don't list where I would get everything or every part I would like to get) Look my list over and feel free to tell me what you'd change, what you would or would not get and where you would get it from... Feel free to add onto my list or change it.
I'd really like to get around 300hp but I'd settle for 250 with a solid suspension setup
What I am looking at:
I was looking at the RRM Turbo Kit (including turbo, ceramic coated tubular exhaust manifold, turbo downpipe, RRM FMIC, BOV, piping, Fuel Management & Injectors (and some other stuff)
I am also wanting to go ahead and throw a limited slip in it while I'm at it, a better clutch - doing the clutch slave modulator delete. Lighter flywheel, porting or replacing intake manifold, maybe some head work - not really looked into it too much, underdrive pulley, full exhaust (maybe the one from RRM), piggyback, engine mounts.
I'm also planning on coilovers, larger front & rear swaybars, rear strut bar, stronger front strut bar, B&M Short throw shifter kit & brass bushings.
I'd be looking into Wideband EGT, A/F, boost/vacuum gauges as well - maybe mounting oil pressure, water & oil temp.

Everything looks good on your list, but here are some suggestions.
Don't bother with the front sway bar and front strut bar. IMO the stock ones are just fine. Also you don't need the piggy since the turbo kit comes with one.
I didn't see anything about the brakes? Maybe consider the big brake kit from RRM, or if you can afford it, the kits on Tirerack.com are reasonable.
How about an Evo steering wheel for $200 - $300? Or, maybe some lightweight rims? I can't imagine anything chrome being lighter than stock?!

the 10 G list, For sure it would be a rrm turbo kit with alchohol (or RIPP's Supercharger with meth) lightened flywheel, lsd, 17 inch rims (not sure of the type but good light five spokes, RRM tiebar, rrm lowering springs, tiens suspension, Evo 8 seats, 3 inch turbo exhaust, the turbo camshaft being developed by RPW. geez, that got to be close to 10 grand there doesnt it?? hahaha, dreaming eh, gotta love it
If you're going for power and performance, i'd say turbo kit (whether you put one together or buy RRM's i heard putting your own together might actually be cheaper but i may be wrong), do up the suspension and definitely a bigger brake kit to compensate for your new power. Also like mentioned up above downpipe, flywheel etc... But i think 10G's isn't going to cover all that plus labor... I feel bad for the guy installing it.. but he's gonna be one rich guy after haha (that is if you don't do it youself). Congrats on the new plans though, goodluck! and take photo's of the process!!

dude dont waste time. +1 for the Evo. I would get the evo in a heartbeat, im in the process of gettin one
. The money u spent or watever u do would be a step down from an Evo ( AWD, turbo'd, the great look, acd, and etc)
Take the $10k, drive to either Buschur or AMS, hand them the $10k and the Ralliart, and say I'll be back in a few weeks to pick it up.
More specifically, I'd grab the RRM kit and pistons, then have either AMS or Buschur custom tune it for me, and step up to a haltech or AEM EMS if needed. Also new clutch and LSD. Remaining money, which probably wouldn't be much, would be dumped into suspension and tires. Coilovers, sway, upgrade all bushings.
If there's any money after that, I'd have a bodyshop repaint my front bumper and hood, since Mitsu's paint sucks and can't hold up to daily driving

Instead of AMS or Bushur who's strength lies with Evos and DSMs, I would take it to Road Race and tell them you want more power and either better handling or braking. Half the money will go to the turbo kit and installation and tuning, decent coilovers plus a front big brake upgrade or a LSD will probably take care of the rest. As in 2 out of those three.

wow, two evolving members and one evolved member didn't even read the original post. No wonder half of the crap on this site is just that.
Just like some other people are saying you aren't going to have much left over after the turbo install and other engine parts. You can either concentrate on power and help that turbo kit breath better, or you can get the basic turbo setup and start working on handling. 10k may sound like alot, and when you are talking about groceries it is, but when you are dropping around 5 or 6 just for the turbo and install you are a far cry from getting everything on your wishlist.
With the extra power you are adding don't worry if your wheels are chrome unless you are racing your car instead of driving it. RPW has a two piston caliper that allows you to go up in rotor size a little. It also requires no modification. RRM's kit requires some minor modification and gives you a much larger rotor (1.1") with the stock calipers. Both kits(1100-1800), the turbo(5-6000), coil-overs(12-1400), and good rubber(5-600) will put you somewhere in the 10k neighborhood I think(rough estimates).
Thats the way I would go. This will give you a whole lot more car to deal with, and the means with which to put it on the ground.
If you really want to do the clutch, lsd, flywheel and turbo you aren't gonna have much money left, and the lsd is not gonna help with your braking or handling, which is why I suggested tires, brakes and suspension instead.
Anyway, hopefully people will read your post before they respond and you get everything you want. Good luck.

Yeah thanks! I agree with reading the original post!!! Getting an Evo may still be a possibility but I am currently looking what could be done with my RA.
I'd be doing all installation myself and probably end up paying for somebody to dyno tune it for me. My first buy would be the turbo kit, clutch and flywheel, and probably do the LSD while I was at it, then I'd work on suspension and brakes with what I had left.
And my 17" wheels are actually chrome plated, not 100% chrome - they're still pretty light.
