grinding noise when on throttle in turn when cold

So. as the title says... It's winter here at the moment, and whenever I have the steering wheel turned and am on the gas, there is a grinding noise coming from the Front outside wheel (of which ever side i'm turning). Never happened when it was warm.
when I get off the throttle, the grinding noise stops. the noise doesn't change pitch (I don't think) as I increase throttle on the turn. I'm not sure of what it can be.

It is definitely not the ball joints since I replaced those just a few months ago. not tie rod ends since I also replace that at the same time as the ball joints. Not tire rub either. (I don't think it is the differential since I have a quaife and it's helical and shouldn't make any of that noise)

Could it possibly be the coilovers or pillow ball mounts? or something else? CV joints look fine but I don't know how they are internally.

Currently have 1217XX km (756XX miles) on the car.

Any possible fixes or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

Is it rubbing against the built up snow in your wheel wells? I know that happens to mine sometimes.

It's likely the tire rubbing on something. One or both of your coilover dampers might be blown. I have a blown front strut, and whenever I turn sharply and the car leans to that side, it rubs.

I don't think it's rubbing on the snow build up. this sound is not a squeeling kind of noise like rubber on something, sounds kinda like ABS, but louder (maybe 3-4 times louder).
I don't think it's the coilover's since they are pretty much new and were put in last spring to replace the ones a shop destroyed while doing an alignment. (they smashed up the adjusters on top while trying to move the camber plate...) might be the camber plate or the pillow ball bushing?

i know exactly what noise your talking about. happens on tight turns in the cold weather. im 90% sure its built up ice and snow rubbing.
now, interestingly enough, this does not happen when turning tightly in parking lot speeds, but it does when turning the wheel and giving it gas to the point where they slip on the ice or snow.

it does sound like ABS but only on one side. doesnt happen in warm weather.

yeah. but the thing is when it was 0 c here with no snow yet, it would make that noise slightly on the dry pavement with no wheel slip, not as much as now, but it still made it when there was no snow.

what setup are you running? I have Tein SS with the Tein EVO VIII PU mounts. might have something to do with the suspension if thats what you are running too.

Have you pulled the wheel off to look for possible rubbing spots? It may not have been rubbing before when it was "warm" but now that its sucessively colder outside it might be a consistent wear not necesarily caused by the cold but just by a failure or loose part. Unless of course it specifically happens when its cold on one day then the following day when its warm it doesn't do it.

AKA if you didn't understand, are you positive it only happens in the cold. I don't know about your area but down here in boston its back and forth from warm to cold so you can isolate a problem caused by weather extremes.

yeah, no rubbing spots at all. it doesn't happen when it is warm out. right now it's -30 c (-22 f) out so i'll grab the video later tonight because it's supposed to warm up a hint (just got back from class and I myself am freezing)

If there's no rubbing spots then it's time to take a closer look at the axles.

ok, just got back from north side mitsubishi.
the service manager tells me that its the cv boot grease. hah. nonsense, i say.

It's supposed to be warmer in Edmonton tomorrow, so I'll try and see if it happens again then. I'm sure it's only the cold, but why does it do it only during wheel slip. Odd, I say.

Canada_Comp, let me know if it still makes noise tomorrow for you too during the warmer weather. Maybe we'll have to visit a mitsu dealership in town together sometime and ***** at em for a bit lol.
