maybe it is not your third gear but the shifter cable bushings or shifter cable themselves

For my part I changed bushings twice in 3 yearrs and changed the cables few weeks ago
The bushing tend to seize and if you don't take care of it the cables will bent

starts with the 3td, then 1st and at the end complete higher section is out

ahahhahaha
If you don't know whether or not its going then you shouldn't be thinking of replacing it. The synchros are mid-gears in your transmissions, they essentially guide your shifts into gear. Replacing synchros is basically rebuilding the transmission. Something you shouldn't give a shot unless you have someone there to help, a lot of free time to mess around and a ton of patience. Here are some photo's of my chewed up synchro's.
Note the brass piece is the synchro:

I forget how much each synchro cost I'll get back to you on that.

Eh, actually I think that's the wrong picture, there's a picture of a synchro with a chunk missing out of the alignment portion of it. Also all the synchro's I removed had a little metal lip on the edge of it from a combo of my harsh driving and a bad clutch hydraulic setup that comes in the RA. Did I mention that I went through 3, yes 3 master brake cylinders and 2 slave cylinders. I had the lower stock clutchline start leaking on me after fixing the slave and master so I replaced the entire line system with braided lines. Following that my tranny went, had it rebuilt replacing 1-2-rev synchros, 2nd and rev gear, and a ton of other misc parts. 3 weeks after the rebuild it went again, brought it back to the guy *****ed him out. And to this day its "being looked at" (week from when we dropped it off).

/end rant
(ever wonder why I hate my car its because of that... and because I've replaced the fan controller 5 times! yay!)

check my thread https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/la...questions.html. I also have 3rd gear problems with grinding. It's not the bushing since I clean and lubricate them yearly. there's also videos of mine grinding. prices would be awesome
