Question Noob Dragstrip takeoff question..

i am about to take my 04 ralliart to the local dragstrip, but the sticky track has me worried, when any of you take off do u have ur car reved up already? (in M/T)?

My neighbor said to just take off normal and not to rev it up because i could break something int he car due to the prep.

what do you veterans do? and if you rev it up, what rpm are you going to?

if it helps the only mod i have is a sri...for now.

thanks

If you take off normal, you'll have horrible 60' times.

They key to a good launch is getting the rpms in the power curve zone. Too little rpms will make the car bog, too high you'll just spin through 1st gear. Practice your launch and adjust your rpms.

Good luck and don't break anything!

Don't do it if you want to avoid any chance of breaking stuff... Just take off normal. Or accept the risks.

im going to do it either way, i kinda want to know which is the best way to do it though so i have a heads up to avoid damage thats all.

i know how to do it on an unprepped track...(street) im just worried becaue ive never done it on any type of prepping, maybe im just paranoid and there is nothing to worry about

thanks

Even though the track is prepped, you will not be able to take full advantage of it - you are still on street tires. I highly doubt you will break anything, you'll just spin.

just take off as if you were on the street...and that will work with the track. you might have to go higher RPM though

What GDS said. Don't rev too high, you'll just wheelhop halfway down the track (unless you have filled mounts.) 3k, don't dump the clutch, and you should be able to get a 2.2 60', which is about as good as you're going to get on street tires and no LSD with our car.

When I raced mine I kept it about 4K. I found that the key was to keep your revs above the MIVEC turn-on point because your car will act very sluggish until then. As for the rest, Otter is dead on; don't dump it and you'll get that 60'.

I think I revved mine somewhere between 3k and 3.5k. Pulled of a 2.2 60Ft and 15.5 @88
